This is not a top luxury stay. Rather it's a time capsule.
The building is 150 or so years old and walking in felt like stepping into one of the many open houses we've been in on Shirakawa-go or the Hida Folk Village ... but you get to sit around the low table, lay out your futons and actually spend a Night in the Museum 😉
So authentic.
The host was super friendly and flexible. He and the cleaner came to bow us away in the morning. Lovely ppl, lovely place.
If you're not into laying our your own futon, or if you want 5* amenities, this one's not for you. But it was very clean, had everything you need including 2 (count them...2!) Robo-toilets!

You get the whole house. Host was patient despite us turning up late, and communicated well through translation app. Great amenities despite the age of the building.
Make sure you understand the logistics of getting there and then getting to where you are going. We finished our hike in Tsumango and you need to catch a bus to Nagiso and then train to Suhara. The train is a local train and only operates every hour. Then we were travelling to Hida which required some planning with trains and buses. It’s totally doable, but you just need to be organised.
