Quality Inn Napier

Our room was clean & comfortable with plenty of room for the two of us. The bathroom & kitchen were both great. Staff were friendly & obliging.

The WiFi was very poor, but I believe that's a problem in the area, not just the motel.

Great location. Room was clean and tidy. Parking was easy. Food in the restaurant was good, as was the restaurant service.

Paint was peeling above the shower (needs tidying up). When I went to reception to check out, I was told that the eftpos machine had not been recharged overnight so I couldn't pay for the dinner and breakfast I had eaten overnight. I was asked if I could go to a money machine to get cash (there was no back-up machine or way of paying). Since I was about to go to a meeting and didn't have the time to go to a money machine and return, I agreed to come back later in the day to clear my remaining bill (which I did). Although the service was very good (the morning receptionist was very apologetic and the afternoon receptionist got things sorted quickly), it was disappointing that someone failing to re-charge the eftpos machine overnight made paying my bill my problem to solve (having to go and get some cash and come back, or come back later in the day to pay it). Suggested improvements are: having a permanently wired eftpos machine (great unless there is a power cut), have an alternative eptpos machine that can be used eg in the restaurant (which is also great unless there is a powercut) and/or having manual credit card slips (which were used before eftpos was developed) to be able to capture a guest's card details and signature if there is no power.

Was quite surprised when asked to pay a further $200 as I did not have a valid credit card only a visa debit card. Hadnt heard of this happening before - got my money back when we vacated the room but they had to check first to make sure there was no damage. I was abit upset about that because I am a 75 year old woman and would hardly have done any damage to the room- this is what I didnt like about the Quality Inn - I felt like they didnt trust me
