Beach is good and the hotel has access to the beach, which is great even though a road separates the beach area (including an open air gym, kids playground, beach restaurant/bar and the actually beach with umbrellas and chaise longs) from the bungalows and swimming pool area. Breakfast is very basic - whatever is cooked on the spot is good (mandasi, pancakes, etc) and fruits are also good but as a whole breakfast needs to be improved. Especially the coffee please. Toaster takes 2x5min timer to grill a slice of bread. For dinner, restaurant prepares thematic evenings alternating maasai dinner and show, music nights, special dinner evenings etc. Good thing is that the restaurant is open for lunch and then non stop until the end of the dinner, so possibility to eat at any time of the day. Some items on the menu are unexpectedly excellent and other left us very disappointed.
I travelled with my husband and my mom, so I booked a bungalow with 2 bedrooms. The weird thing is that the first bedroom is immediately after you open the main door of the bungalow and there are two single beds, then a small corridor with a bathroom on one side and then a bedroom with a large bed. Crossing one bedroom to have access to the rest of the bungalow makes no sense. As my husband and I would stay out late we had to take the children's room not to disturb my mother's sleep every time we would come back late. It is not a great set up to be honest; I felt like I was on a school camp and not on holiday with my partner. Another annoying thing is that we were asked to check out at 10am. I wonder why hotels bother to accommodate people at all, let's kick everyone out at 7am!!

Our family (myself, my wife, and our 3 kids) had a truly wonderful stay at the Kiwengwa Bungalow Boutique Resort. We stayed together in one bungalow with two small rooms and absolutely loved the entire experience. The resort is a beautiful, smaller, boutique-style hotel. While the room space inside the bungalow is on the smaller side, it was comfortable enough, and room service did a fantastic job cleaning it daily. The location is perfect—we had direct access to the beach, which was just a short 1-2 minute walk from our room. The beach bar is located right on the sand and offers great music, excellent food, and top-notch service. We completely fell in love with the relaxed vibe of the place, and both the restaurant and the pool were absolutely great. It offered excellent value for money. A special shoutout to the manager, Ivana—she is a truly great person! She was always available, incredibly kind, and helped us with absolutely every single request we had. On top of that, all the workers at the restaurant, bar, and reception were exceptionally helpful and always smiling. We had a great experience and highly recommend this boutique gem!

apart from the breakfast, I loved everything: the location, the private beach, the spacious bungalows, the comfortable bed, the super friendly and accommodating staff. In their defense I had food at the restaurant and it was very good
the tasteless breakfast. I read in reviews before booking that it was homemade, but whom ever made it forgot to add salt/spices when making it. almost everything was bland

Staff is really something I will remember.. so gentle, nice and always available when we needed help. Breakfast buffet is abundant, very good, with loads of fruit and you can ask for fresh omelette. Off-site excursions are organized by one of the best teams I could ever meet. Good guards are in place at the beach to avoid stress from local vendors. Air conditioner and fan are a very plus against the heat. Towels and sunbeds provided for free at the beach. Available a wide area for kids next to the main restaurant bar. Taxis are nearby if you want to explore other parts of Zanzibar.
The structure is fair, we expected more considering the high price. Rooms are dark, very small, furniture is old and sometimes not so clean. Flush needs to be repaired for good. Restaurant is good, but a little expensive compared to other beach restaurants nearby. Stray cats meowing all along around tables while you eat is a no-go. The 'Entertainment' they state is poor (especially for young people) and weekly repetitive. I have seen better entertainment directly on the beach from locals. No entertainment organized at the beach, like water gym, windsurfing, jet ski, etc. Organization of the place is also poor: there is no dedicated office for excursions, there is no mini-market inside. Even for essentials, you have to go outside. Coffee is very bad, compared to other structures in Kiwengwa. Water - as all Kiwengwa - is salty in your bathroom.
