The food was excellent and far exceeded expectations. Dinner was superb and it was one of the best steaks that I have had in a very long time. The menu was great and breakfast was of high quality and served in a friendly and comfortable environment. The hotel was very old and quirky and individual. Much nicer than staying in a hotel with a corporate and impersonal feel. Walked through the gardens (Herb garden and secret garden) which were clearly loved. Would 100% stay there again.

Very clean and comfortable
The shower head had been repaired with selotape in Anise room so had to use the large shower head and I didn't really want to get my hair wet

We liked the mood, the ambience, the dramatic styling of the place, and the food. We didn't eat there in the evening but the breakfast was very good. Access to the garden was a lovely bonus.
Sadly, for a family of five, our room location did not provide a decent night's sleep. We liked the extravagant room decoration, but the noise from the traffic and the light from outside ensured that some of us didn't sleep well. The window had an extra insulating window over it, but it wasn't that effective. The main double bed wasn't that comfy either as we could feel the bed springs beneath us.
