Wonderful stay for surfers as well as families

Very nice staff, super location in a small village close to welligama, good restaurant, pool, many animals to watch for the kids and the ocean close by.

Size of the room was a bit small, but ok.

Very nice helpful people running the hotel. I felt very much welcomed and had everything I needed.

The room was big enough and very clean. The breakfast was good. And the people were extra nice. I can highly recommend Lion's Rest.

Exceptional

The location: directly on the beach for just swimming, surfing and sunset. nice and relaxed community around. Sunil is a perfect host, organizing everything from yoga within the facility or surfing with Lucky. Facility has a pool, space for yoga with mats, hammocks to chill. Highly recommended.

Incredible hotel, wonderful team, beautiful location

Amazingly friendly, helpful, attentive team of staff. Ayesh, Sunil, and the team looked after us so well. We have been going to this beach for years but have never managed to get into Lion’s Rest, and we can safely say we will absolutely be staying there in the future.

There is nothing not to like.

Superb

Perfect balance between family, working and chill space. The rooms are very comfortable, the staff is very supportive, food is good, high speed wifi all day to work and nice beach to surf, take a bath during the day. The highlight is the sunset view point just 2 minutes from the hotel which is amazing every day. Different good dining options very closed and easy to take a tuk tuk to go to the center.

Enjoyable stay

The size of the hotel is good and the view from the balcony is scenic. Rooms are maintained and clean. There is a small restaurant area offering a selection of food and drinks. Lounge area on the top floor very pleasant. Staff was amazing and helpful whenever needed (always giving some recommendations) Quiet area and not far from Weligama bay. Tuk-Tuk to Weligama bay : 500 lkr Tuk-Tuk to Mirissa : 1000 lkr.

I am very easy, so I did like everything about the property. I wish the grass area in front of the hotel was a bit more clean, but this is something that the village and people need to take care of.

stop looking and just book Lions Rest.

I know every review seems to say this but Lions Rest was our favourite place of our entire Sri Lanka trip. My boyfriend and I (29&30) stayed here in early march for 2 nights and Gurubella / Medigama and the vibe & hotel were for us, paradise! We initially had a few nights at Jamu nearby booked, but cancelled it and chose here instead and are so pleased we did!!!! Its slightly more than typical Sri Lankan prices (still totally reasonable!) but felt worth it. The location & village are like a secret hidden gem. Lions Rest is a literal 20 second walk from the beach - where you can’t swim, but you can watch the surfers. Swimming beaches are a couple of minutes walk away (HEAVENLY WALKS) We initially booked a downstairs room which was absolutely fine, but were given an ‘upgrade’ to a room with a balcony upstairs which was very kind, and of course having a terrace is always the best :) Rooms are clean, airy and perfectly good. The owner is English, and super nice and all the staff are Sri Lankan and super super friendly. Breakfast was good, a number of options - filling and delish. I recommend getting up for sunrise, walking the 20 seconds to watch the sunrise surfers and heading back for breakfast. The lunch menu is also good! We did a surf lesson with Lucky whose their in-house instructor, legend and great surf instructor. YOU MUST do this if you’re considering a surf lesson in Sri Lanka, one lesson with Lucky and we were comfortable just hiring boards for the rest of the trip. If you’re unsure about where to stay - just book it!!

A very laidback surfcamp with a great little pool and more ame ities than you’d expect to find! A terrific deal!

the location at Coconut beach was just what we were wanting. It felt like we were nestled into a little village. The locals were all friendly, welcoming and there seems to be a good relationship between the local families, the surf camps and their guests. some of the most amazing subsets you’ll ever see are just steps away. people gather nightly on the beach here to watch the sunset. you can buy beer and fresh covonut and just sit among the other surf camp guests to enjoy the subset amongst the cows, friendly beach dogs and locals. Really laidback vibe here.

I didn’t realize we needed a tuktuk to get to the main Weligama beach. But its cheap and close enough this was not a big deal. The beach right outside of the property is gorgeous and great to sit or explore, but its only really surfable if you are experienced. Not the best for swimming as its rocky.

Great location in a small village with a quick moped ride or Tuk Tuk to other places, also opposite one of the best surf spots. Room with sea view balcony is great as well, perfect spot to watch the surfers.

Coconut point is perfect location, close to Weligama. Not crowded beach, clean water, nice natural pool. Mike, Sunil and other staff was very friendly and helpful. Guest house has its own generator, so power cuts does not affect your stay.

Quiet area in a great location right by the beach, a stone's throw away from restaurants (try rice & curry at Shirani) and getting anywhere else is a tuk-tuk, there was only a single instance of there not being a tuk-tuk waiting right outside when we needed it. Good breakfast (go for the Sri Lankan one!) and lunch/dinner available at Lion's Rest as well. Sunil together with the rest of the staff were super welcoming and keen on making our stay the best it could be.

Lion‘s Rest is perfectly located just outside of Weligama Bay (so you can have a good night sleep without any loud noises around, but you also have a great surfing spot, shops, cafes and restaurants just around the corner). The place has just a few rooms, so it is quite private and calm on the premises. We actually changed rooms a few times (because the staff was so kind to upgrade us and to offer us a room on our last where we could shower and refresh before heading to the airport) and all rooms were very clean, spacious and comfortable. The place also has a restaurant with very delicious breakfast (great variety of Western and Sri Lankan choices). They also offer very good lunch and dinner with daily changing offers (mostly western, but if you want to eat local food, just ask them for any recommendations in the area!). The staff is very kind and helped us with any requests we had. Especially Sunil had great recommendations for the area, for our trip to Galle and was reachable for us at any time. The surfing lessons with Lucky are a must (we did them in a pair and Lucky really took his time with us and made sure we got the best out of the session). We will definitely come back, thank you for having us!

Perfect relaxing week

Great location, next to the beach. Located in a nice little quiet town. The facilities were always clean and open air (ideal during pandemic times), great pool and food was really good. Fish was always fresh, to prevent freezing fish. Staff was very friendly and helpful at all times. WiFi was good (optic fiber). Eco-friendly and sustainable mindset, e.g. use of metal straws, drinking water available to pour into your own bottle or in the metal cups available in the room. All this done to prevent the use of plastics and protect the ocean.

This is perhaps just bad timing during our stay, but the daily Yoga classes weren't offered because the teacher wasn't available at this time. However, there were Yoga classes available just around the corner.

I had my first surfing lesson in my life. The instructor Lucky was excellent teacher so that I was able to stand up on

The room was clean and everything I needed worked properly such as hot water, fan and AC. In addition, they have nice coffee which is hard to find here in SL.

I really enjoyed my stay at Lion's rest. I've been traveling in Sri Lanka alone for a month and staying here was one of my highlights. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. I always felt so safe and secure there. The staff is always willing to help and answer any questions. The place is located in a little pocket, it's easy to get around and you are within walking distance from the beach! Breakfast is served with a view of the pool and beach and you have a menu you can choose from daily. I highly recommend grabbing a surf lesson with Luck!
