Brilliant location for Durham centre & charming staff - and the icing on the cake was a surprise upgrade due to the hotel being extremely busy.

Room was spacious overlooking river, large bathroom, very clean and well equipped, breakfast was good with lots of choice. The location was excellent close to town and reasonable walk to cathedral and castle.
My Husband and I are in our 70s and the room was on the top floor, the furthest room possible. Glad we can still walk that far. Our fiends had a room on the first floor near the lift.

The member of staff who booked us in was very helpful the lift was out of action and we are elderly so he moved us to a room on the level. The room was very spacious and suited us well. The bar staff were very pleasant and welcoming. The Hotel was very close to the centre of Durham.
The bathroom needed updating, the extractor fan didn't operate the toilet flush was poor there was some black mold in corners. When we drew attention to this on leaving we were told it is an old hotel and should expect this. Also we were there for three nights and our room was not serviced, our bins were not emptied I had to ask for more coffee and tea during our stay. When we mentioned this we were told that we had been informed of this on check-in, which we hadn't.
