We had a great stay in Crystal Paradise Resort. The rooms are great and confortable (bed a bit hard or too soft). The area around the hotel is beautiful. Close to Cristo Rey (Carm’s restaurant is great for breakfast, Monkey falls are refreshing). There is no pool but you can walk down to the river for a swim.
We booked the canoe for 1 day and it was amazing (but yes it’s expensive! But everything is in this country), they drive you up the road towards San Antonio with the canoe and you just paddle down the river. You can stop at Botanical Garden, and Chaa Creek for lunch, really worth it.
Area around the river could be better, but since it is a shared area I don’t think the hotel can do anything about it.
Meals are expensive but the hotel is very accommodating if you have an activity early in the morning! We were doing the ATM caves at 6:45 and they provided us with breakfast at 6 AM.

The birds at breakfast on the terrace were amazing. All possible tours and more were available to us directly from the hotel.

The staff was super helpful and so gracious. They were lovely, felt like family. The grounds were lush and the birds were incredible. I'm not a bird watcher but I was completely taken by the different birds there.
This isn't even a negative, meaning it's far from Belize City but honestly it has to be in order to give you a feeling of being totally away.
