I always felt secure inside the building. The staff was very kind. It was necessary to speak that the staff is Spanish, so persons who have no knowledge of Spanish would have difficulty here. The main virtue of the place was that it was very cheap and I was able to spend my money on the other things at Merida has to offer.
The neighborhood itself was run down but I never felt any kind of danger in it.

I loved the friendliness of the staff. The location was great. Just across the street was a small, family run place that would do your laundry. There was an Oxxo (a local convenience store) just a short walk from the hotel. There was also a Super Aki (a local grocery store) very short walking distance from the hotel. The Plaza Grande (or main town square) was only 6 blocks away and definitely walkable.
The hotel itself also had drinks and bottled water as well as snacks available for purchase. And there was, on the same block, a little "cocina" or restaurant.
On the day I checked out, the staff on duty was very helpful with arranging to have a taxi pick me up. Most of the staff do not speak English so a minimal knowledge of Spanish would be useful. The owner ( or I assume he was the owner or at least the manager ) did speak English. I really enjoyed the few brief conversations I had with him.
They do provide complimentary coffee to their guests. They also have a refrigerator in the lobby that the guests may share. I would definitely consider staying here again in the future.
