The Hall, the location, the breakfast and the staff (when eventually found them) were all excellent.

What was not so good was the reception on arrival. I can understand that it would not be cost effective to have a constantly manned reception but having to ring a hand bell twice upon entering the building and then having to wait about 15 minutes and still nobody turned up, not a good start. I eventually went wandering around the building until I found 3 members of staff having a chat in the bar area. They obviously were not listening for the bell even though they must have know guests were due to arrive around that time. The second area to disappoint what the accommodation itself, while the outside of the house looks pleasant with its hanging baskets at the back and the pond in front the actual accommodation was not so good. The furniture looked cheap and nasty, the television was tiny and at the other side of the room to the bed, there was only one small bedside light which had been placed on a small suitcase stand. The carpet was wrinkly and very cheap looking. The bathroom although a good size had no surfaces to put anything on except for a small window ledge. The final thing that really annoyed us was the fact that they were not serving dinner. There is a note in the room that says please do not bring ‘take away’ food into the rooms as we offer a full food service in the Hall. You web page also says ‘you can enjoy a delicious dinner in rooms that have seen an incredible amount of history’. On arrival (between 4.30 and 5.00) I asked what time dinner was served and was told that there would be no dinner as the cooking staff had gone home. This meant that we had to then go back out again and find somewhere else to eat, not ideal after a long day travelling.
