About this house rental
Comfortable, modern suite on the ground floor of a completely restored 19th-century villa in rural São Miguel, Azores. The suite features a large bedroom and a fire place in the living room.
At the base of the Sete Cidades volcano and on the edge of the town of Capelas, Vila Alegre is only a short drive from north and south coast beaches, as well as the island's main city, Ponta Delgada. Once our family’s summer home, Vila Alegre has been completely renovated. It was our dream to blend the form and character of a traditional Azorean country home with modern comforts.
Enjoy carefully restored antique furniture as well as a new mattresses and sofas. With our wonderful temperate climate, a wood burning fireplace and electric heaters warms the suite during winter stays; thick stone walls and tile keep the suite cool in the summer. With respect to sound, the suite is extremely well insulated, with concrete between floors guaranteeing privacy and eliminating the sound bleed between the suites. The suites includes WIFI, cable TV in various languages, as well as secure parking within the traditional stone walls of the property
Enjoy easy walks to local shops, country lanes and full access to the property's serene gardens. At Vila Alegre, our beautiful gardens, walkways, benches and gazebo are all around you. Enjoy our covered outdoor barbecue patio and many spaces in the gardens for relaxation, contemplation, or play.

Whether you're looking for a romantic weekend getaway, a longer stay in the country, or a relaxing family vacation, Vila Alegre is a spectacular, one-of-a-kind home base for your stay in São Miguel. Antonio and Maggie (hosts) are awesome. Welcome kit was very much appreciated. The gardens are amazing. House is lovely. The only warning is driving in Capelas is something you need to get used to!

A great experience from the welcome basket, to the comfortable suite, to the gardens --with Antonio's warm hospitality and helpful attention. We were very fortunate to have found this property for our first visit to Sao Miguel Island! It presents a great location for touring the north shore and just twenty minutes from the airport and Ponta Delgada. Our mobility issues were not a limitation to our visit with accessible rooms within the suite and parking just outside the gate. Merci beaucoup, Antonio: a la prochaine!

From the moment of arrival and till the moment of departure, our stay with António was perfect! The house and the garden are even more beautiful than the pictures show. We were quite overwhelmed by the fantastic flowers in big vases in every room, even in the kitchen. And the fridge was full of good things for our first breakfast - which was very considerate, because we arrived around midnight because of a changed flight schedule. António picked us up at the airport! What a service!
Everything in the house functioned to perfection, and the bed is delightful.
António helped with everything we needed help for and offered to do more, such as giving us interesting ideas about his homeland. We had some good talks and enjoyed a bit of laughing together, having more or less the same sense of humour, although we are from Scandinavia and António from 'the middle of the Atlantic Ocean'.
Our stay on that beautiful island, São Miguel, was only just long enough to make it clear to us that we need to go back soon, and then, of course, we will stay in Vila Alegre again!
