About this house rental

Situated in Kangaroo Lake, this lovely house for $350 per night is a fantastic choice for your next trip. Welcome to our cozy lakefront cottage on Kangaroo Lake. We’re so excited you’ve chosen our cottage to enjoy Door County! Kangaroo lake is a very special part of Door County. It holds many happy memories for us and we hope you’ll make some of your own during your stay. We affectionately refer to the cottage as “Le Hut” because it was not much more than a little wooden hut on the lake when we first found it. Since then, we’ve completed many upgrades (with more projects planned) and hope you find it comfortable and inviting. In this description, you’ll find lots of useful information that we’ve compiled over the years to help our guests make the most of their stay. From house rules and instructions, to recommendations for nearby restaurants and shopping areas, we’ve got it all covered. We hope that you enjoy the cottage as much as we do. (If you do, feel free to write a review, or leave us a little note in the guest book — we’d love to hear from you!) Have a great stay! Sincerely, Shane, Maddy, Sheena, & Ryan HOUSE RULES We kindly ask you to read our house rules carefully and keep them in mind during your stay. No parties or events allowed. No smoking allowed.  1 dog allowed — please keep them off of furniture and beds. There are pet covers for you to use if necessary.  Please do remember that although the water is not deep right off of the shore, it is your responsibility to recreate responsibly (children and adults alike). Enter the water at your own risk. We are not responsible for any injury or accident that may occur. We have a number of extra chairs, water toys, SUPs, life jackets, etc. for you to use in the shed near the cottage. Please treat these with care and return them to the shed when you’re finished using them. No unregistered guests allowed.  Please be respectful of our neighbors. Keep late-night noise to a minimum and pick up after yourselves — many of our neighbors are full-time residents.  Please respect check-in and check-out times and contact us promptly with any issues. Please take extra care of your keys and contact us ASAP if you need a replacement.  Please take care of the furnishings. You have to pay for damages that exceed the security deposit, including damage caused by pets. Please don’t rearrange the furniture. Please do your dishes before you leave. Please take the trash out before you leave. There are trash and recycling bins located onsite. No illegal substances allowed on the premises. CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT TIMES Check-in is after 4:00 pm and check-out is until 10:00 am. We’d really appreciate it if you could stick to these times.  If you’d like to request a late check-out, please contact us through whichever site you booked us through (Airbnb or VRBO) or any of the contact details provided at the end of this manual. However, please be informed that we may not be able to grant your request if we have a same-day check-in.  PARKING INSTRUCTIONS Please park in the designated guest parking spot. Please do not block the driveway, as the yard maintenance and trash truck do need to be able to get in. WIFI DETAILS The cottage is not currently served by any available wifi or satellite networks. (We promise, we tried!) We do hope to offer wifi in the coming years, but for now consider it a welcome technology break.  *We have had success working from the cottage (video calls, emails, etc.) by using the hotspots on our cell phones (Verizon and At&t), so feel free to give that a try! HOUSE INFORMATION General Le Hut is old and simple. Please be gentle with appliances, windows, doors, etc. Specifically, many of the windows slam easily so please be careful of little fingers. The toilet and septic system are also quite fragile — please do not flush anything other than the provided septic-safe toilet paper down the toilet. Any clog or maintenance required due to ignoring this rule will result in a fine. If you should find that something is not working, please let us know as soon as possible so we can remedy the situation in a timely manner.  Trash and recycling There are extra trash bags under the sink, should you need them. The trash and recycling bins are located outside. Please take your trash out before you leave. Weekly trash and recycling pickup is on Wednesdays. You don’t need to move the bins — our trash service will simply drive up the driveway to empty them. Yard maintenance You may notice someone mowing the lawn if you are renting on a Sunday or Monday. He’ll be in and out in no time. Feel free to say hello if you’d like to chat. Garage There is no guest access to the garage. You’ll have access to the cottage and the small shed near the cottage. Baseboard heaters  Should you need to turn on the heaters, simply turn the dial on each of the baseboard heaters. Please turn these off when you’re out and when you leave. *There is no a/c in the cottage — open the windows and enjoy the lake breeze. Water softener  Please do not touch the water softener. It may make noise at night as it regenerates. Nothing is wrong — this is normal and short-lived.  Bedding/towels There is no need for you to strip the beds or worry about linens. We have a cleaning service that will take care of everything.  TV There is no TV — the lake is your view! Take this time to enjoy the outdoors and Door County to the fullest. As mentioned in the wifi information above, you can use your hotspot on your phone to stream videos and movies to a phone or tablet if necessary. Fire Pit Sitting around a fire at the end of the day is one of our favorite things to do on the lake. Please purchase wood from within the county (many places around the county sell wood on the side of the road. The gas station in Baileys Harbor also sells firewood). Do not cut, trim, or burn any bushes, trees, or foliage from around the property. Please also extinguish your fire completely. Use a bucket and water from the lake or the hose that’s mounted on the outside of the cabin. There is a fire extinguisher located under the kitchen sink in the cottage.  Dogs We love dogs and are happy you brought yours along to enjoy the lake. That said, it’s your responsibility to make sure your pup doesn’t cause any damage or disturbance to our neighbors during your stay. Please follow these pet rules while staying at the cottage:  • Do not leave dog unattended  • Do not allow dog on beds or furniture (we provide covers for the couch if you think your dog will find their way up)  • Your dog must be under leash control or voice command at all times. Our property is only partially fenced in and we can’t have your pet wandering into our neighbors’ yards. • Please pick up after your dog. We have a pooper scooper located by the door. The garbage bin is on the property and will be emptied weekly. • Feel free to use the provided poop bags, dog towels, and dog bowls during your stay.  LAKE RULES All usage of the lake, dock, and lake toys are at your own risk. We are not liable for any injury, illness, or death that may occur as the result of lake recreation or accidental entry into the lake. Please be mindful of your group’s swimming abilities and do not, under any circumstances, enter the water alone or while intoxicated.  If you bring your own boat up to the lake, the boat launch is located at 7563 S Kangaroo Lake Dr, Baileys Harbor, WI 54202. Beach towels and dog towels are available for your use — please do not use the bath towels outside of the cottage. There is a drying rack in the shed you can hang suits, towels, and life jackets on to dry. LOCAL TRANSPORT INFORMATION The cottage is a short 5-minute drive from downtown Baileys Harbor, with attractions like The Blue Ox Bar and Grill, Door County Brewing Company, and Baileys Harbor Ridges Park. Check out doorcountytrolley.com for tour options around the county if you don’t want to drive.  GROCERIES/NECESSITIES Baileys 57, located 5 minutes away in Baileys Harbor is the closest gas station/grocery store to the cottage. They’ll have everything you need from cold beer, ice, and firewood to freshly made sandwiches, groceries, and toiletries. Just drive into town and you’ll see it on the right side of the road. SIGHTS TO SEE AND THINGS TO DO Door County has so many things to see and do. Parks, breweries, wineries, art galleries, hikes, tours, museums, restaurants, and churches fill the towns from Baileys Harbor to Sister Bay. Check out a few of the tour guide books we’ve left on the table for you to borrow. Our personal favorites are our family’s own restaurant, The Florian II Supper Club and the Blue Ox Bar and Grill in Baileys Harbor. Other local greats are The Sister Bay Bowl and JJ’s (both in Sister Bay), The Red Putter in Ephraim, Peninsula State Park, Cave Point, The Blue Horse Cafe in Fish Creek, Washington Island Ferry, Cana Island Lighthouse, The Farm, Peninsula Players Theater, and of course, Al Johnson’s Restaurant (plus so many more wonderful places!). Great view and cute place, but there were no working power outlets to charge any phones or iPads. This was all working vacation so that proposed an issue. The plug-in to power the microwave also did not work. The refrigerator didn’t keep anything cold so we were forced to throw meat away after our stay. didn’t keep beer cold either. It was a little disheartening after putting our warm goods back into our coolers and packing the truck up that the only thing you could smell was the septic that is right next to the parking lot. We will look elsewhere next time.

Place was clean, communication was great, location was perfect, view was beautiful, and I feel it was accurately described as a SMALL get away. That being said, I am a very large man (6'1, >400lbs) and knew going into it that would be an issue (thank god for the king size bed though). My wife and dog are average size, and we have a newborn baby and we felt way too cramped. If you and your family are small people that will be outside most of your stay, maybe this will be great. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't on our side this trip and we were forced to spend a decent amount of time inside (thank god I brought a small tv from home). The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that after the ridiculous fees, I feel that we way over-spent for the size of the location. The host's price was reasonable I guess, but it was nearly doubled by fees, and at that point we could've rented a much larger and accommodating location. All depends on what you're looking for. Hopefully this doesn't come off too negative, but after paying $2k for a weekday only stay, the last thing I wanted was to feel uncomfortable and get in to arguments with my spouse because of the place itself. Thank the Lord that Door County itself is so wonderul that all our time spent at various bars, restaurants, and shops was so enjoyable it made up for it. Side note: be careful on the "rugs" in the place. We almost slipped and broke our necks about a hundred times lol

This stay was perfect for our weekend getaway. We loved the paddle boards that were provided and it was about 5 minutes from downtown Bailey’s harbor. We went to the brewing company and the blue ox- both dog friendly!
