If you love historic architecture and environments, this meticulously restored 1892 mansion with period furniture and fine art can provide a unique and special stay. It discretely combines modern features we appreciate (kitchen, baths, heat, air conditioning) with a careful and authentic representation of a late-19th century home. Guests who appreciate beautifully decorated formal rooms (including 2 parlors and formal dining room seating 12) are sure to be pleased--we were! Guests who prefer a very casual and relaxed living environment, might be uncomfortable with the formality of the living spaces. All 4 bedrooms are upstairs, along with one large full bath. The bedrooms are configured to sleep a total of 8, but a group of people--related or not--should consider whether they would be comfortable with the degree of bathroom privacy available. There is a large 3/4 ADA bathroom downstairs, mostly so that persons with accessibility concerns can be accommodated at special main floor events. For guests sleeping overnight up a very steep flight of stairs, this extra bathroom is not very useful. Because of the steep stairs to bedroom and no elevator, the house is not suitable for overnight visitors with ADA concerns. It's a good idea to bring a full supply of groceries--morning, noon and night meals to store and prepare in the well-equipped kitchen and eat in the spacious dining room. Especially if you have special dietary needs. The area is a bit challenging for cafes, with drives of 30 minutes to 2 hours for even a casual meal. Restaurants are generally small, family operated--which can be local fun, but also often means short and erratic hours and days open. The villa is located in a 10 acre park with a large duck pond, meadows, short nature trails with labeled plants leading to a stream and river beach, an historic barn and a well arranged, informative community historical museum open weekends. The surroundings are very peaceful on most weekdays. But on weekends from Spring through Fall, both private and community events are scheduled for the park, so be sure to check the event schedule if public noise, parking, etc would spoil your stay.

Our family of six stayed for 3 nights. During the day my parents, son, and daughter-in-law came to visit. We loved the pond, river, and park access! The kids had a blast playing hide-and-seek in the house and running around. It was around 80 degrees during our stay, and I can vouch for the upstairs not cooling off too well - but it is just the bedrooms anyways. By bedtime it had cooled off reasonably. The house is beautiful, and the museum was fun also!

We rented this place and another house on Quilcene Bay for a family reunion. It was perfect for our needs. The host was very helpful and responsive. The community of volunteers involved with this mansion and museum and park grounds is doing great work. All bedrooms are on the second floor. One bathroom of two is on the main floor. We stayed 5 nights. Very relaxing an peaceful. No traffic or noise issues. We would stay here again.

I believe I already reviewed this house, but was willing to do again because it was a great place and great experience. Cool little town in an area with hikes, wild oysters, coffee kiosks and great little local restaurant. Highest praise.

I didn't stay overnight, but had an amazing tour of this house today. The detail that has gone into this restoration is the best I have seen. The house is authentic, has beautiful period furniture and artwork, and yet is comfortable and not stuffy. The original tiger-eye maple woodwork and the Eastlake mantle are gasp-worthy. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who appreciates Victorian homes. It would also be a beautiful venue for a small wedding or a family reunion. The kitchen is outfitted for events, and would be a great workspace for multiple cooks for a family or friends weekend.

Better than we expected!
Better than we expected!
This stay with our friends was the most amazing and unexpected treat! This home transported us back in time, but with modern amenities. It was like living in a museum, but still felt like home. Everywhere we looked there was a new detail to see: artwork, furniture, fabulously ornate mill work, etc. Also, being located at a park gave us lots of opportunities for recreation. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was perfectly stocked with every gadget we needed for our meals. The renovation was done immaculately, kudos to all the volunteers! We felt so lucky to have found this place and will definitely come back to stay and maybe dress up for the period and play a murder mystery game!😊
