The room worked for what we needed however the over bearing smell of Mexican food ruined our visit. We woke up daily to the smell of food in our room which then transferred yo all of our clothing and outerwear. We smelled like onion and taco seasoning everywhere we went. Had we known there was a Burrito restaurant ,cooking all day everyday, in the lobby without proper ventilation we would have booked elsewhere. Image walking into a restaurant or shop smelling like pungent spices and onions. We had to leave our luggage in our garage to air out. It was extremely frustrating ro deal with! I attempted to speak with someone about our concerns, yet each time we attempted there wasn’t anyone available. For the price we paid, the experience was ridiculous. This was our first stay at the Murray Hotel and it will definitely be our last. FYI, we are avid travelers and very laid back. However the stigma we experienced impacted our trip and limited the number of places we felt comfortable visiting. We did not want to be those people that smelled terrible in the enclosed places. If you cannot handle smelling like cooked taco/burrito meat with onions, avoid the Murray at all costs. Not to mention the coat we incurred for the dry cleaning of our coats and a few sweaters. Big let down!!

The location and charm of Murray had me back for a second visit. The unique rooms and hallways and amazingly kind staff make the visit truly magical. Love being right on Main Street!

Nice hotel with old feel charm. The room was a little small and only had one chair (no table) for sitting. The room was a little noisy, I wouldn’t want to be there during the busy season.

Good location. But rooms were not very quiet. Does not offer a refrigerator and the TV and channel selection is inadequate.

I loved the Victorian decor and the old pictures hung everywhere. I took time just to walk the hallways and look at the pictures/. I also liked that they allowed me to leave my luggage after checkout to go explore the island. This was very appreciated.

excellent location. couldnt be more central. great access from ferry. saved us with a borrowed phone charger cord. towels were thin and scratchy. restaurant didn't look like something I would want to try but you could not beat the location and price.

The room location was perfect! View of the lake and while there a cruise ship.docked which was an added bonus.
I loved the Victorian decor.

I want to start by saying I get this is an old hotel w/ an antique aesthetic. I understand some rooms will be small due to the nature of the building, but we were put in a hardly manageable space for two adults and a toddler. For a one or two night stay for two adults- small but fine. Add a toddler for a 6 might stay? Pretty terrible. The furniture was “antique”, but seemed easily breakable & didn’t want to sit on the chair. Dresser was broken, nightstand wobbly. Bathroom was “updated”: disappointing. We were in two different rooms & neither bathroom door closed. Shower only, no tub.
If you want a fridge or microwave, you have to ask the front desk??? Not sure what that means, there is no space to put it in the room so I would assume someone else would be handling storing my leftovers.
The location was great!
There is a facial soap bar, but no “hand soap”. There is a small shampoo provided, but no body wash or conditioner. Those amenities would be helpful & minimal expense for the cost.
The staff was… okay. Not overly happy or helpful, but not mean I guess.
My parents (2 adults) stayed in a room down the hall & the room was SO much bigger- even had a tub. I just don’t understand why the Hotel couldn’t let us know that the accommodations would be tough w/ a two year old. We checked in, they saw us and our stuff.
Ultimately, you have to go in w/ low expectations & understand you are *only* paying for location. No frills or extras.

The rooms were clean. All the staff very helpful and friendly. There were morning donuts in lobby. Would recommend and stay again.

The toilet in my room was disgusting. There was dried poop on the toilet lid. My friends room, which I booked for her had spiders, she got bit by one. Other than that location was good, fudge was great. Really was the creamiest on the island.

This hotel is across the street from the ferry terminal and close to shopping and restaurants. It has a nice sun deck and hot tub. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Amazing hot tub! Didn’t love that the room didn’t have a microwave or refrigerator. Better breakfast options. I prefer a continental breakfast and miss their pizza buffet.

I didnt like that the restrooms do not have an exhaust fan. It was warmer when we were there and it was hard to cool off after a shower while getting ready.

We had a 3rd floor room overlooking Main Street but we’re prohibited from using the balcony? There were theee very tall windows (looked to be fairly recent replacements) instead of a slider, therefore our whole view was from behind a screened window over the unused balcony to the bustling street below and bay and lake beyond? Also the choice of wood horizontal blinds for these very tall windows made them almost too heavy to operate up and down, further limited the potentially fantastic view. Very clean, well maintained but dated property. Lastly, why a Mexican restaurant? Huh?

Close to everything Mackinac has to offer. Short walk from the Shepler’s dock and right across from Star Line. The large hot tub on the sun deck is an awesome way to close out a night.

Overall the hotel is in a great location, just the staff needs a little more customer service skills, they need to be reminded that they are in the hospitality business and should learn how to greet the guess.

We enjoyed our stay at Mackinac Island. The Murray Hotel was convenient, the fudge was yummy and the room was just right. We loved the window seat and thought it added the right charm to the room decor.
