We stayed at the Donald Gordon in Kingston to view the Total Solar Eclipse. The room we were given was very clean and comfortable. The included buffet breakfast is served in a large room on the main floor. You need to wait to be seated. The tables are set with white table linens, silverware and coffee cups. The selection was three different cut fresh fruits, small boxed cereal, two different types of scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, home fries, bacon and sausage, pastries, and either pancakes or French toast. Coffee is served at the table by staff. All the food was well prepared and the table service for coffee top offs or anything else needed was perfect. The dinning area was keep extremely clean. The front staff was fantastic. Extremely pleasant, informative, and helpful. Any concerns were quickly answered. When we visit Kingston again we will surely stay at the Donald Gordon.

We've stayed here many times and we will again. The included breakfast is amazing; greatly appreciated. The cost vs quality has been a good proposition for us. It's always a balance. The location for our purpose (visiting QueensU) has been a significant consideration and a big plus.. On this last 2-day stay, there was no hot water in our room. It was explained at checkout that a pump was down after a 3wk shutdown. But the hotel didn't tell us; we had to learn when we checked out. Had we known, as the hotel seemed to know, we would have stayed somewhere else this time and returned to the Conf Ctr next time.

Great place to stay, but my window could not shut properly, and the room was freezing cold when I arrived, and it was drafty throughout the night. Also, the toilet was running intermittently through the night. A good tip might be for hotel staff to spend a few minutes in each room once in a while, to detect these kinds of issues.

The stay here was pleasant. Staff were friendly and welcoming and were nice when we asked to extend our check out time slightly. The breakfast was very good. Much better than most included breakfasts and I liked how they changed the menu selections slightly on the two mornings we were there. I noticed the chef come out from the kitchen and check on the food which is a great sign. For the hotel building a needed improvement is the water pressure. I understand it’s an old building. But the shower was very weak which wasn’t great. Otherwise, I’d recommend this hotel and would stay here again when we return to Kingston next year!

I was only here for one night for a conference. The food supplied by the hotel for the conference was very good. The staff, especially the servicing staff was excellent. You could really hear the noise in the hallway but most hotels are like that. The bed was very comfortable- haven't slept that long in such a long time!

Breakfast was nice. The heating system is terrible. It was impossible to control in one room so I had to change in the middle of the night. The corridor by the next room was sauna hot. The bed linens were fine. The location was okay and the surroundings park-like. It's getting old and showing its age. I need to be able to sleep as the first priority and it needs to work on the HVAC. I would never stay there again. The reaction from the staff polite but you are taking a chance with the noise and from the heat/cool unit and its inability to be at the proper termperature. Hint - if the heat is controlled by up and down arrows, that's the old system. If there's a dial control, that's the replacement. The 4 story building is the better one.

My second stay at the proper was excellent, as was the first. Beautiful and peaceful setting; the location was perfect for visiting our daughter at Queen’s. Very good breakfast and parking included. We would definitely return.

Quiet hotel that allows one to rest effectively but also focus on work/study in the rooms. Very comfortable even though minimalistic - feels very homey. The staff were so kind, it felt like being with family you like! When I booked, I asked for a microwave, which was brought to the room upon check-in. They have a limited number of them, so be sure to ask early if you need one! Breakfast was a good buffet spread and filling! A heads-up there are no laundry/services but there is a laundromat nearby.

This was our second stay at this hotel. We love the location for its walkability (lakefront park, Portsmouth Harbour and the Penitentiary Museum). The breakfast buffet is incredible and as an inclusion in the room rate, it makes this place a real gem.

Lovely grounds, and so quiet! The rooms are simple, comfortable bed, fridge, coffee and tea etc. low water pressure for shower. Amazing buffet breakfast!! Staff friendly and helpful.

The bed was terrible, made excessive squeaking noise and shaken badly when moving at the bed. The mattress definitely need to be replaced. By the way, don’t buy the breakfast vouchers, unreasonable expensive- $25. We did not ask the price until we see the final invoice.

We loved the fact that it was quiet and safe and that there was plenty of parking space. Breakfast was wonderful. We did not like the fact that on your website it advertises a wonderful bar in a great surrounding. We found out only after we arrived, that it is available (open) only for receptions, groupes, wedding. etc. If we can make a suggestion, why don't you open this bar from Thursday to Sunday in your slower weeks ? What ever route you will choose, make sure you include this information on your website.

It is a ways from downtown. We didn’t have a car but it was a very nice long walk. Very nice and quiet area. Check in was quick and easy.

Bit of a musty smell in the room. Bed was comfortable. Poorly lit areas of the parking lot. Poor picture on the TV. Overall not bad, typical place to stay.

First the cons of the stay: (1) One of the desk side plugs didn’t work in our room (207). The toilet was always running. The hair dryer only had one setting that worked. The pros were: (1) breakfast buffet was above average, (2) courtyard and surroundings were nice, (3) staff were friendly and (4) ample parking. Overall, the would say the property is slightly overpriced for what you get.
