We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the San Francisco Proper Hotel. Our room was modern and spotless, we particularly loved the very comfortable bed and minimal street noise.
The hotel is just two blocks from the Orpheum Theater and about 4 blocks from the Powell street cable car terminal. We will definitely stay at the SF Proper Hotel again.
In this area of San Francisco you will see numerous unsheltered people. You will also see many members of the Union Square Alliance who keep their assigned areas clean and act as the eyes and ears of the district and can offer information to visitors. We were often greeted by smiles and “hellos” from them. We also saw a significant police presence on foot and in their cars. At no time did we feel uncomfortable or unsafe in this area.

Love the people, love the room, love the rooftop bar. Lots of homeless around, but they don’t really bother people. The thing I really didn’t like, was even though we were staying one night, for valet, it’s $110.

Loved this hotel. It’s in a kind of sketchy neighborhood, but the rooftop bar is gorgeous, front desk was great and loved the bubbly rose! The doorman were attentive and wonderful. AND Aesop amenities are so luxurious!!!!
