Adequate room. Bed a little soft for our old backs. Rainfall shower head leaked even when control was turned all the way to wand. Breakfast buffet okay but plentiful; however only limited a la carte order selections were available for the weekend days. What made this a 4 star ecperience was the rectification of a booking error that had only one person per room, when there were two couples. At first, we were told that our chosen breakfast option would only cover one person, even though two couples were allowed to check-in, and the room price with breakfast was the same whether there were one or two occupants (checked on hotel web site for a booking a couple of days later). Management made the right customer service call by allowing breakfast for all four persons.

Beautiful hotel in an amazing location. My only complaint is there are no bins around the hotel inside or out, as a smoker this was an issue as I had nowhere to put my butts, without walking down the road.

Had an amazing stay. I would have rated a 5 star, but when booking, the reservation was for an ocean view room but the hotel came back and said no, it wasnt when it clearly said so on the Hotels.com site. The person who I was communicating with seemed rather unhelpful and said "would try to fit into a sea view room" but that wasnt confirmation enough and when I tried to get a definite answer or a contact persons name, I didnt get any replies... so rather disappointing on the customer service side. In the end, i contacted Sudima help desk at head office and they came back with confirmation it was a sea view room which we were pleased this was confiemed. The staff on the front desk were very nice and helpful. Enjoyed our stay.

One thing that ruined the stay was opening the bed and finding stains on the sheet, apart from that everything else was great.

Beautiful property and great location. But the attitude of the staff at the restaurant was not great at all. There was nothing indicating you had to wait to be seated, the restaurant was nearly empty so my wife and I went and sat down. An employee came up and asked what we were doing, we said we were sitting down for dinner. Employee then said the table we were at was reserved (nothing indicating as such) and were told to take a seat at the bar. Ok cool, no worries. We do this, place an order, then get told we can't order dinner at the bar, despite the employee who moved us telling us as much. We ended up walking to a nearby restaurant for diner. When we returned, sure enough the original table we sat at and the one adjacent to it were both still empty and clean.

The restaurant and bar staff struggled to cope, like watching faulty towers, salad didn’t arrive, wrong drinks arrived. Meal was very average, not good value. Buffet breakfast was very expensive for what it was. $35 per head is crazy. Check-in staff were great.

Fantastic location with a wonderful restaurant. But, I learned something from the desk attendant on my second night when I had the worst sleep of my life. Apparently birds dive into the A/C units on the roof (attracted to the light at night) so the units randomly need service because the grates around the fans bend into the fan blades and the units vibrate SUPER loudly. Staff kindly tried to get me into the only other available room on the floor below mine, but you could still hear and feel it from there. A lot of people lost sleep that night. A beautiful hotel, but the bird smashing thing happens frequently so you have a solid chance of losing sleep if you're 'lucky' enough to be there when it happens. No comp on the room, of course. ;)

loved it ... but a few things missing in the rooms no mirror outside of bathroom(made it hard to get ready if someone in the bathroom), no bedside lamps, no bathrobes, 2 vents in ceiling giving cooking smell in room.

My room had a view of snow capped mountains and a view of the ocean crashing on the beach. I was able to be rocked to sleep at night by leaving my patio / deck open to hear the waves. Great service

The property itself is lovely, modern, clean and the staff were helpful. But it is very noisy. Other guest's doors slamming, their bathroom cavity slider doors banging, and people talking in the corridor. Shame there was not more thought put into soundproofing.

We stayed one night, and were it was amazing, the view from the floor to ceiling windows along our corner room was fantastic. our stay was very relaxing, comfortable bed, and a fantastic shower The 11am check out was nice as well Only negative was the lack of TV channels, but it did not spoil our stay, we will be stay again

The staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is always spot on. It's my 4th time here and it is now my go to place in Kaikoura. The views are tough to beat. Can't wait until my next break away there.

Relatively new facility with a full restaurant. A little too far to walk in winter to the center of the town where places for shopping&dining are concentrated. But a coffee place is almost next door.

Breakfast need improvement. No maple syrup with waffles.... what!! Scrambled eggs had 2 shades in it. Would like to know how many rooms actually have the views of the ocean? Didnt seem, from the hotel layout that many rooms had it but marketing highlights that to be the main feature.

Haven’t stopped in Kaikoura for years. We tend to drive through, the Sudoms was great and a much needed quality of hotel for Kaikoura We’ve already planned our next stay. Rooms were great, food was delicious. Spectacular views from the even numbered room. Well done Sudima
