This is a beautiful property and a lovely quiet street of Japanese homes and one minute from a three block covered passageway that has shops, restaurants, grocery stores. The house is perfectly maintained, and the staff are responsive promptly. We loved our stay.

We were a bit early and the host was already there and welcomed us despite us surprising them. She was so friendly and helpful. The house met our expectations and more. We really wanted an authentic experience and it was exactly what we wanted. All the doors were sliding which was so cool. The tatami mat living room was so nice with the relaxing scenery outside. The bath was enjoyable as well. The house is historical with remodeled modern bathrooms which is great. The host provided all sort of amenities, from hair brushes to toothbrushes, umbrellas, yukatas, towels, coffee things, snacks, informative reads, etc. Very thoughtful and considerate. Along with the washer/dryer, I think we could have packed so much less things had we known how hospitable and thoughtful Japanese houses/hotels were. One thing that could have made the stay a little better would probably be more chairs with backs. There were 6 of us, but only two of the chairs had backs, so we weren't used to that. The house is also not very sound proof throughout just because of the way it's built and the materials, so be mindful of that. Something to be aware of, if you're not a very flexible person with mobility issues, this would probably not be a good stay just because there are narrow stairs to go up, and to go to the kitchen, it requires steps down.
We stayed at a total of 5 places in our 10 day trip to Japan, but this was the most memorable one. It beats staying at another generic hotel. Location was also good, it wasn't super close to a lot of the touristy areas, but it was a minute (or less) walk to the shopping street, it's just right outside. The shopping street is an older one and had very little tourists. It has some unique stores and we enjoyed that convenience of just walking to a nearby shop for whatever we needed.
In conclusion, loved our stay here. Highly recommend for families with older kids and adults who want a Zen Japanese experience.
Needed a few more chairs with backs.

This was a once in a lifetime experience..the house and garden were beautiful in every way, the breakfast was excellent, authentic and tasty. The location was great…so close to restaurants and shops.
It was a fantastic Japanese experience.
