Great national Trust venue/hotel. Given it is old the windows rattle and no air con or fridge in the room. However if you are looking for a great place to stay with an old time experience, this could be the place for you.

An impressive historic house hotel just a short bus ride from the centre of York!
From the moment we arrived the staff were all very attentive whilst managing to not give one the feeling that they were constantly hovering, a delicate balancing act well executed.
Dinner and breakfasts were delicious….what more can I say?
We also particularly enjoyed strolling in the gardens and chatting with and getting tips from the gardeners….one lady went out of her way to show us a reference book and suggest that I photograph the page about a particular plant we had asked her about.
Our room, in the main house was spacious, very well appointed and spotlessly clean ….our only issue was the lack of a small fridge…..drinking warm water partially during the night wasn’t the best thing.
