Aberdour is a lovely little old gem in an idyllic neighborhood, close to the train station. It’s run by the inimitable Amanda, who is the best host I’ve ever met. The place is older, and a bit frayed- but in the way the Velveteen Rabbit is frayed. It’s a lovely old place, simple, clean and cared for, and I was immediately made to feel that I was also cared for. The beds are comfortable. The bathroom’s not fancy but absolutely serviceable, with good hot water in the shower. The breakfast is incredible. Amanda is incredible. Her dog is incredible. I could not love it here more.

My twin bed room was medium sized. It had a small TV, hot water kettle, no mini fridge. But, there is a fridge in the breakfast room that you can place food in. Breakfast is included and it begins at 8:00am, 8:30am on Saturday and Sunday. Both times were too late for me. Cooked eggs, toast, cereals, fruit, coffee, tea. Towels, coffee sugar cream and tea packets for your room are shelf service . They are in the closet on the third floor. No elevator, so you have to carry your suitcase up the stairs. Check in and out was easy and fast.
