This is a little slice of heaven in the Duoro. The staff, service, location, peacefulness and tranquility are beyond expectation and we had the most fabulous time.

What an incredible, elegant, comfortable, luxury place to stay. Very friendly, helpful. The quality and design of the suite we stayed in was very high. The breakfasts were like a work of art - high on the cake and pastries, everything else you could possibly want. The interior design is beautiful, there is a calmness and space. The pool is the most beautiful, cleanest pool I've ever seen. The many areas in the gardens to sit and/or sunbathe are impressive. The nooks and crannies to sit outside (all sorts of swings - even one in the river!). The hotel doesn't do lunch or dinner - instead they offer picnics (hot or cold) These are amazing! We had an anniversary dinner out in the garden in a lovely spot, looking at the Douro River and the hills (incredible).
Not close to restaurants. Everything is a big drive - around hairpin bends, through the hills. Even 6 km takes 25 minutes due to the hills etc., Not a lot of taxis - and they are expensive. Going out for the day (we went to Pinhao) was a 1.5 hour drive each way - we were dizzy from the bends and hills! Worth staying here if you want to escape, relax and completely chill out.

Our room view was stunning. Room windows are huge and you can see the whole river. Its amazing. Window shades are eletric, bed is big, everything was pretty clean, windows are sound proof so its very calm and relaxing.
I would not say its a con, but the hotel is on a "cliff" so you have to go up and down to do anything you need. Rooms up, breakfast in the middle, pool is very down close to the river. So prepare to walk a lot (up and down) to move around. Its not a good place to stay if you dont have perfect mobility.
