Scandia Motel

Scandia is a great place. The people who run it are fun and nice! I always sleep well on the mattress there and I have a spine issue which is saying a lot. The location offers easy access to the village, neighboring Oceanside and the freeways about 2 miles away. The venue is next to a preparatory school which has a lovely campus with old trees. It is bookended on the North side by the enchanting Buena Vista lagoon. There are walking paths everywhere so if you decide to forego driving to a restaurant or what have you, you can enjoy a stroll. The housekeeping staff is wonderful, timely and always there during their shift to assist. The Amtrak or an occasional freight train passes at the backside of the property but unless you are hyper-sensitive to the sound of a train, it really is quick and actually adds to the ambiance of the village atmosphere. I love the shutters on the windows so you can adjust the light and breeze coming in. The ac/heater works like a charm so you can be cozy. The traffic that goes by at the front of the property consists of slow residential speed vehicles well-regulated by a traffic circle at the North end. The area is very very safe and walking at night is great and relaxing. There is every type of cuisine from Indian to Mexican and Italian a block away and many ice cream/dessert cafes. I love Scandia and I always return, as I am currently caring for my mother. ‘Tis fun to get to know the staff, some of the nice guests and daily birds!:)

A great no frills, clean and well kept motel in walking distance to the beach.

Scandia is a good place. The room is very comfortable and the people who run it are nice. The parking is good; you can be very close to your room. The location is pleasant, close to everything with lots of choices of things to do around you in Carlsbad Village or neighboring Oceanside. There is an occasional freight train or Amtrack that goes by but it adds to the charm of the village. There is a historic prep school, Army Navy Academy that has a beautiful campus with lots of old trees. The campus is right next door on the south end and Scandia has the Buena Vista lagoon on the north end. Across the street are residential properties so the hotel is just outside the commercial zone and quiet. There is a traffic circle on the north end so passersby don’t drive fast and there is hardly any vehicle noise. The room has a cozy feel with a spacious shower and nice sink area. The heater is also wonderful. It’s nice to read at night with the ocean air coming through the window. Also there are nice window shutters. The housekeeping staff is great and you can find so many places to explore and walk. I also enjoy the little birds that fly around the property!:). As with any well-run property, if you follow the rules, are polite and courteous to other guests you will have a great stay at Scandia!

Staff is super nice and the remodel must have been fairly new clean homie convenient to Carlsbad village for a short walk too and great value. Recommend 💯
