About this house rental

Built in 1720, this cozy farmhouse is a cool summer retreat for those seeking a simple quiet vacation. The house is located on 14 acres of fields and woodlands adjacent to the expansive Clayhead nature preserve and other large private holdings. Take the 10 minute nature trail walk to Clayhead beach to swim and sunbathe or continue a further 300 yards south to the famous Mansion Beach. The trail also brings you under the Clayhead bluffs where you can enjoy the best striped bass fishing in the world. Walk north under the bluffs for about an hour to reach the iconic surfcaster's destination of Sandy Point or stalk nearer coves for 40lb bass. You can also follow the meandering trail along the top of cliffs with exceptional eastern views of the ocean, the ferry coming and going and Old Harbor.

Reaching town takes about 5 minutes by car or 15 by bicycle.

Guests are allowed access to a high-end propane grill.

A shaded picnic table and set of lawn chairs allows guests to enjoy their meals beneath 100 year old maples.

The large front yard is ideal for lawn sports.

The nearby Block Island Club offers weekly rates for sailboat rentals and tennis court access. Cars, Kayaks and Bicycles and Standup Paddle Boards may be rented in town.

Accessing the bedrooms requires the use of historic 1720's staircases which are rather steep. They are not recommended for the elderly or infirm or young children. One ground level bedroom is available for those who are limited physically.

A barn on the property is occupied by owners.

Magical. The green stairs should be thought of as a ladder. The house is not the most glamorous but I loved not having to worry about anything. I can't wait to go back it was perfect. Bring sheets and towels. This is Block Island the way it used to be.

Such a quiet spot! I don’t think we heard or saw another person during our entire stay. The house was comfortable and well stocked. I especially appreciated the laundry being on the main floor, the outdoor shower, and the miles of clothes line! Everything you need when you’re back and forth to the beach every day!

Pros- Very quiet setting. Private grounds and tree filled. Property near beach. Lots of plates, pots and pans and utensils. It would have been helpful to have a non stick pan, paper towels and white kitchen garbage bags though. Very good propane grill. Cons- extremely buggy inside the house. Front door screen door does not close, so it was either buggy or hot. Window screens had lots of gaps, filled with paper towel bits and duct tape. Toilet leaked a bit at base. The stairs up to 3 of the bedrooms are very steep, without handrail. These rooms are not appropriate at all for older folks or very young children. One person in our party slid down the staircase, no, not alcohol related. Needs repair.
