The cottage was brand new and spotlessly clean, everything was perfect. Special praise goes to the host. We arrived quite late on a rainy day, and when I messaged him to say that it was a little chilly and that we had no nesspresso capsules, he arrived just 15 minutes later with a box of capsules and an additional heater, despite the late hour.
A few more hooks would have been useful, as there was nowhere to hang our wet clothes. A bath mat in front of the shower would also have been appreciated. A barbecue would also have been a nice addition. There is some noise from the road, and as others have already mentioned, the lights from the greenhouses slightly spoil the atmosphere.

Torfa Lodge was fantastic. The location is great, 5 minutes from the Friðheimar tomato farm and close to other attractions in the Golden Circle. The cabin is beautifully designed with attractive furniture and finishes, and the living room/kitchen area is spacious. The large living room windows offer a great view of the surrounding landscape. The beds are very comfortable, and the kitchen is well-appointed. The hot tub was a nice luxury. The shower was nice and spacious with good water pressure. And everything felt very clean and new! I would absolutely stay there again and recommend it to any of my friends; it was our favorite stay of the trip.
The floors are thermally heated, and there is no thermostat, so the cabin was quite warm inside when we checked in (September 2026). I asked the host, and they said there is no way to control the heat; it's automatic. We had all the windows and the front door open for a few hours to cool the house to a comfortable temperature. This let in some flies, but it was worth it. I didn't want to sleep with the door to the house standing open, so we ended up closing it when we went to bed. I saw our neighbors doing the same thing! The door of their cabin was wide open most of the afternoon and evening.

Das Bett und das Sofa waren bequem, die Küche ist zum Kochen ausreichend ausgestattet. Positiv waren zudem die Verdunklungsvorhänge in allen Bereichen. Ein Lüfter in der Küche wäre jedoch hilfreich gewesen.
Leider entsprach die Unterkunft in einigen Punkten nicht ganz unseren Erwartungen.
Der Backofen war bei unserer Ankunft stark verschmutzt. Ich habe dies bereits am ersten Tag gemeldet, während unseres Aufenthalts erhielten wir darauf jedoch keine Reaktion.
Auch die Ausstattung empfanden wir teilweise als eher knapp. Im Schlafzimmer gab es keine Ablagefläche und keine Nachttischlampe, sondern lediglich ein sehr helles Deckenlicht. Für zwei Personen standen je ein grosses Handtuch sowie ein gemeinsames Handtuch für die Hände zur Verfügung. Wer den Hot Tub draussen nutzt, muss somit dasselbe grosse Handtuch anschliessend auch wieder zum Duschen verwenden. Bademäntel waren nicht vorhanden.
Beim Kochgeschirr ist uns aufgefallen, dass dieses im selben Fach wie ein Reinigungsmittel aufbewahrt wird und dadurch teilweise entsprechend riecht. Nach erneutem Abwaschen war das für uns in Ordnung, angenehm fanden wir es dennoch nicht.
Nachts ist ab etwa 22 Uhr zudem der Wasserfilter des Hot Tubs zu hören. Er ist nicht aussergewöhnlich laut, könnte aber für Personen mit leichtem Schlaf störend sein.
Auch zur Lage ist vielleicht hilfreich zu wissen, dass das Haus nicht abgeschieden steht, sondern von mehreren weiteren Ferienunterkünften umgeben ist. Wer eine sehr einsame oder abgelegene Unterkunft erwartet, sollte dies berücksichtigen.
Zum Schluss noch ein Hinweis zur Abreise: Die Küche soll vollständig aufgeräumt und so hinterlassen werden, wie man sie bei der Ankunft vorgefunden hat. Für uns persönlich war das kein Problem, da wir dies ohnehin so handhaben. Bei einer Unterkunft in dieser Preisklasse hätten wir uns jedoch gewünscht, dass diese Erwartung bereits vor der Buchung beziehungsweise in der Beschreibung besonders deutlich ersichtlich ist.
