I was excited to be able to stay once more in this beautiful old house where i had stayed in total 6 weeks in 1985, 1 week in 1986 and a further 2 weeks in 1988 visiting the Findhorn Foundation Community. This hotel is currently in transition, and may not meet everyone's expectation, but we were delighted to see it still so unchanged. The check in was very relaxed and friendly for me and my family. We could explore the building unhindered, as long as we were respectful, which felt like a time warp. Warm, comfy beds, lots of ot water for a bath which my partner enjoyed, and my grandchildren had a ball. You can bring some snacks and have breakfast in the rooms, possibly even in the large old dining room. There is no catering, but kettle, tea and coffee tray. Bathrooms are shared, but there were not many guests, and it felt like having a private one. For five of us much cheaper than a four bed in Edinburgh Youth Hostel. Recommended for All who seek a cheaper alternative and more freedom to B&B, or to all others who would like to once more stay in Cluny Hill Hotel/College, which still features many designs done by the former community. I am curious how it develops. Best of luck and success to the new owners!
Because there currently still is a real lack of furniture and soft fittings in the rooms and corridors, there is a lot of echo, so it can be a little noisy when people talk, or your partner snores. Carpets in the corridors cushion the walking, which is good, and there is no noise form other rooms. Decor in the new rooms is a little too functional; more wood or carpet and curtains would suit the old style better, but maybe this is just for transition.

The location was really nice and peaceful, and I really liked the building and its surroundings. The host was very friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout my stay. He was always available whenever I needed any help.
The shared bathroom was not clean or well maintained. There was quite a lot of hair around, and it didn’t feel properly cleaned. I also found it quite noisy at night because I could hear people walking on the floor above, which made it difficult for me to sleep. Next time, I would prefer to stay in a room on the top floor.

We were a little apprehensive about staying here due to some of the other reviews, but honestly we had a great stay here. The staff were helpful and communicative and the room was comfortable. It is good value for money. If you're looking for something luxurious then obviously you need to spend a bit more, but for what we needed (a comfortable bed, a good night's sleep) it was perfect. It is quirky but I quite liked that about it - it definitely has character! We would definitely stay here again next time we're heading up to the north of Scotland!
The bathrooms are very old style - quite cool to feel like you're stepping back in time! But not the most practical places for showering etc. It was good to be able to give our son a bath though!

My family and I decided to book this hotel for 1 night after we attended an event close by. We read the reviews and knew what to expect. We booked 2 rooms for a family of 5 which where located next to each other. Clean bedding, towels, toiletries and coffee/tea facilities were provided in each room. The rooms were cheap and done the job. The 3 kids enjoyed themselves. We collected a chippy for dinner and ate in the hotel. Afterwards we walked around the building and grounds. The kids enjoyed the tree swings. Advice for others. Read the reviews. You get what you pay for. The building is old and quirky and the stay is what you make of it.
No tvs in the room. Wifi wasn’t provided. Obviously shared bathroom and showers but we expected that anyway for an old Victorian building.
