Artuch mountain lodge, locally called Artuch Alplager has an excellent location, in the heart of the Fann mountains in Tajikistan. It's about 2.5 hours from the Samarkhand border. We chose this location because we wanted to add on a couple days hiking while touring Samarkhand. The other popular nature location is Seven Lakes (Haft-kul), but in my opinion Arutch area has much better hiking. My family and I stayed at the lodge and did 2 day treks, one to Kulikalon lakes and one to Ziyorat lake. Both are exceptional treks with amazing scenery.
The lodge is comfortable and warm, rooms are nice with shared bathroom facilities. The staff is friendly and helpful, the manager and a couple others speak English. We had neglected to pack rain jackets and they were really helpful with sourcing them for us. They can arrange travel by car to the lodge - highly recommend this option. They can also arrange guides, donkeys and camping equipment. We hired a local guide for one of the treks.
Meals and transport are on the expensive side but perhaps that is to be expected considering the remoteness of the region.
