Inn at Depot Hill

Charming, beautiful, wonderful location, historical. Romantic, friendly.

The Inn at Depot Hill doesn't have a traditional front desk, and staff leave around 6 or 7 p.m. The staff communicated well once we contacted them, but the limited check-in hours weren't clear when I booked. I only learned by proactively reaching out that, for a late arrival, they would leave our room and side-door keys in a lockbox. We also weren't told that our room was on the second floor. Fortunately, we had no trouble with the stairs, but this could be a serious issue for anyone with mobility limitations. The late check-in process could be much clearer. A short video showing where to find the lockbox, how to enter the property, and how to locate the rooms would be very helpful. We arrived around 11 p.m. and had a difficult time finding our room because the layout isn't straightforward. I also found the breakfast selection very limited. Given the $650 nightly rate, I would expect a better breakfast offering, perhaps a small continental buffet where guests can serve themselves. Even simple additions such as boiled eggs and hash browns would make a meaningful difference and should be relatively easy to provide.

Comfortable quiet close to downtown

Some blinds were broken or loose. Light sconces were loose and falling off wall. Shutter blind rod very delicate and broke while operating. Capitola beach room.

Breakfast was good, maybe not as much as I would have liked. Staff were very good. Hotel is very picturesque. Good location relative to Capitola beach.

Pillows were a bit too hard, room was a bit stuffy. Had some trouble with door locks at first. Should have ceiling fans.
