Sands is an ideal location and has great and welcoming staff!

Sands is well-kept and gives a typical coastal side vibe. Staying here also means access to beautiful cliff side views you can climb down and or enjoy from a bench. Sands is also located in between downtown Cambria and the elephant seals tourist spot.

Very good..

Location is Perfect...but access to the beach was blocked...we hated that!! Please clear up beach access...That's the main reason we love staying there!!

Room had been reset but sheets were wrinkly and dirty, bathroom had toilet paper on the floor, dirty carpet, hairs on the walls, a dirty towel. Found a bug crawling on husband’s leg in the bed. moved rooms at 10.30pm - reception wasn’t overly surprised at our request. moved to room in Cavalier next door, much cleaner.

The best location (& most reasonably priced) of our Central California Costal roadtrip!

GREAT location right by the beach, with a big area between the motel and the climb down (or steps) to the beach. In that big field are paths to walk on, a giant sized chessboard, checkerboard, tic-tac-toe, a cornhole game, and three fire pits (the motel supplies the firewood & keeps the fires lit) with chairs provided, plus other chairs & small tables near the large games. All of that was a big surprise!

Well, this Sands by the Sea motel is owned by the motel immediately next door (for about a decade now, they say). The downside of that is that the "Sands" office isn't staffed and its pool is locked up. The upside of that is that you pay a great price for a basic motel room, but next door (a very short walk), you get to enjoy the perks of the fancier motel next door (two swimming pools, the aforementioned games and fire pits). The "free breakfast" isn't as complete as one gets at a Best Western or Quality Inn. You each get a voucher for each morning that you'll be there: good for toast OR English muffin and coffee OR orange juice -- or the voucher can be used as $5 toward the cost of a menu item -- breakfasts from the menu are $12-14, coffee $3, juice $4 -- you see how it can add up. Cinnamon rolls are $5, so you could order that with a glass of water, if you wanted that from the menu at no additional expense.

perfect place to stay especially if you want to bring man’s best friend with you 5star location in our family’s book

It was definitely less traveled that places like pismo or Morro bay so it’s almost like you had the whole place to yourself and everyone that we met who was there were really nice and accommodating to our needs definitely a pleasurable experience and the sunset and ocean in the backyard are out of this world!!!!

It was a great time to enjoy with my family.

it was a very enjoyable experience. The staff was friendly, they have fire pits to enjoy outside as the sun is setting…very beautiful and relaxing.

The walls are a bit to thin where you could hear others in their rooms.

the location is perfect for road trip. the beach view is awesome.

the ref smells like a dead rat. no indoor pool. breakfast sucks... the carpet floor is damp
