The Central Park North

We really enjoyed our stay at the Central Park North. The staff were lovely and though we didn't have to ask for anything extra, I feel like they would have been happy to help. We had no issues with sharing bathrooms, there were two nice shower rooms on our floor and with only 4 rooms on the floor there was never a time we couldn't access at least one, plus there are more available on other floors. There is shampoo, body wash, hand soap and paper towel in each room, bath towels and washcloths are also provided. We had the smallest room with basic furnishings (by necessity due to size) but even so we had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and supplies, plates, mugs and cutlery; also free wifi and satellite TV. This is a guest house style, not a full service hotel, so no room service per se but there is daily pick up, fresh towels and coffee supplies when you need them and the bathrooms are thoroughly cleaned every day. You have an access code for the main door and a key to your room. It's away a little from the heavily touristy areas so it's a bit more of a neighborhood, there's a grocery store and a couple of good takeout places half a block away, subway station is right there too. It's a really cool old building, very easy going atmosphere, definitely good value for the independent traveler.

This is not a complaint as I knew this in advance, however be aware that it is a steep walkup and there are four interior floors and NO elevator, it is a small historic building which will not be accessible to non ambulatory wheelchair users or people with mobility/climbing limitations. I myself walk with dual canes and I was able to make the trip up and down a few times a day although it was getting tough by the end of Day 4; Ella Fitzgerald's encouragement from the top of the stairs got me through! For me it was worth it for the experience but unless you are very determined or very stubborn (like me) you might want to look for somewhere a little less challenging.

Large comfortable room in a fantastic location for me. Easy self check in (arrange in advance) and a fantastic value.

I was worried about the shared bathroom and having to wait. But this ended up being just fine and not a problem at all.

Bathrooms were spacious and always clean and they provided clean towels and coffee, when asked. The location was very good, close to Central park.

The room floor could be cleaner.

The location is very convenient — close to the subway and Central Park, which made getting around the city easy. The room was suitable for three people and worked well for the length of our stay. The shared bathroom was always very clean, which we really appreciated. The self check-in process was smooth and hassle-free.

There are a few areas that could be improved in terms of overall cleanliness and upkeep. Towels were not changed during our stay, even though the trash was collected on one of the days, which led us to expect some housekeeping. The bed linen had a few stains — nothing major, but it did affect the overall impression of hygiene. The neighborhood can feel a bit intense at times, especially in the evening, but it’s well-connected and functional for exploring the city.
