There were so many things we LOVED about this property! My 20-year-old son and I stayed 3 nights to attend a family function and we shared the twin-bed room downstairs. It was very cozy and one wall was a bookshelf with a lot of interesting reading, some family photos, and antique items. There was an old fireplace with a wonderful, framed painting on glass that had been bought in Boston years before. It must have been 200 years old! The beds were comfortable, the bedding was very clean and of good quality and extra cotton blankets were set out in case we needed them. We slept with the 3 windows open and only used the air conditioning the last night as it was humid. The attached bathroom was quite large (almost as large as our room), very nicely tiled and included a bidet! There were plenty of clean, white towels, and quality soap and shampoo was provided, along with a hair dryer. We needed an ironing board and iron and it was present in our room when we arrived the first night, so they were on top of things! Now about the 4-acre property: Incredibly beautiful and just waiting for appreciation and photos ops. The property has many beautiful flower beds, bushes, trees, an old barn and a meadow with trails mowed through the tall grass and wildflowers. I also was allowed to eat some raspberries from their garden. I got up very early one morning and just wandered around with my camera taking pictures. Nourishing food for a too-busy-in-life soul. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating. They even baked fresh chocolate chip cookies (twice) to snack on! The home was built in the 1840s and has been owned by the same family for 110 years. It is Greek Revival with an impressive front porch. It is a lived in B&B, so if you're looking for perfection with everything being matchy-matchy with a high-level of attention to original detail and fussy clean, rather than hominess, not sure you'd be the right pairing.

Since I ran out of room to say what I liked, I'll continue here. However, if you want a home away from home, in a beautiful old building that needs work here and there, come on down! If you're wondering, the breakfast coffee was excellent, the bagels and condiments were very good with the fresh berries being excellent. I'm going to be staying there again! I hope you choose this wonderful home with warm hosts that give you space, and that is well-priced and very close to Middletown and the CT River.
