"Six of us stayed in Stonebank House last weekend, the house is a nice size, just right for 6 people. Lovely views from the living room window and only a couple of minutes drive into Eyemouth and Berw..."

Superb location, with great views. The house was well designed and of generous dimensions. It was warm, and despite its proximity to both the A1 and the main East Coast railway line was very calm and peaceful.
I’m afraid the whole place just felt very ‘tired’ and needing some love, as it’s a beautiful house. Our main concern was the state of the living room carpet - stained and dirty in many places. Some of the other carpets were very tired, and to be honest all of them could probably do with being replaced. The beds and bedding need upgrading, were like something from the 1970’s! The kitchen could have been better, with the cooker looking rusty and greasy which initially put us off using it. The curtains to the patio doors had a large smear of something on the linings, looked like bird poo? ( Most likely as the nesting swifts had deposited piles of the stuff on some of the upstairs window sills ). We know the mess birds can make ( live in the country ) and the laws around the removal of nests, but the state of the sills and windows were very off putting, and looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for some time. This also prevented the opening of the upstairs windows for ventilation. Bathrooms were okay, but the main one had some issues - black mould in the shower and shower head. The towels were like sandpaper - rigid and not very nice. I’m sorry if this sounds overly negative, but these days people do expect better. Despite the above, we did have a good week’s stay at Stonebank House. Our stay was designed to have a quiet week away and also to research somewhere for a larger family break in the future. As much as we liked the house we unfortunately won’t be returning, unless the points mentioned above are addressed.
