Good location, breakfast, and wifi in a beautiful building.
My bus was 5 hours late arriving into Cusco and we arrived at midnight. The driver of the van dropped me off on the street below the hotel. I asked him if he could get me closer and he said not possible. It is a LONG walk up the stairs to get to the hotel! I paid for a double room with a balcony. What I got was a single room with no balcony when I checked in. Sort it out in the morning as I was exhausted. My room was quite small so I requested the double room that I had reserved the next morning. It was explained to me that since the room had a double bed, it was a double room. NO, it is a double bed in a small single room. I wasn't going to pay until we sorted it out. They agreed to discount $10 a night on my stay. I agreed to it but here is a warning. The room is small and very little room to move around. (Think Tokyo hotel rooms) With two people staying in that room, you will be tripping over each other and I don't where you are going to put your luggage. I never got the room with the balcony but that is something to be aware of. When you think of a balcony, you think of the balcony overlooking a street, an ocean, a plaza, etc. Their small balcony is decorative and you overlook an interior wall about 6 feet away from the balcony. Seems deceptive! There is a wall heater close to the bed but it hums constantly. The shower is tight but there is hot water. My biggest complaint is that the hotel is advertising double rooms which clearly are not double rooms and a balcony with a view of an interior wall. My taxi did pick me up closer to the hotel but it is a dead end street so the driver has to back up to get to the main street. We had to wait 10+ minutes to get onto the street as traffic wasn't moving. in that area. Be aware of this if you are in a rush to get to the airport. I wouldn't stay at Hostal Madre Tierra again.
