The apartment is as described. Very clean. Well appointed oasis in the city. Quite an assortment of food items (teas, coffees, mustards) available too. The best part of this rental is the host, Jose. Such a kind, accommodating person. We needed to leave early in the morning to catch a flight and he met us .... at 6 am! ... to help us. We gave the location only 4 stars because the apt is a bit of a distance (0.3-0.4 miles on cobblestones) from the parking garage. Fine for us but thinking that for some people, that could be a challenge.

The apartment in old town Bilbao was really great; the location and the space itself. The host, Jose, was great too. I arrived early yet he allowed me to leave my suitcase there while I explored the neighborhood and the apartment cleaning was finishing up. I would definitely stay here again.

The property was in a great area and was lovely. Good size, clean, easy to contact the host when needed. One suggestion would be to freshen the place up with new fluffy towels. It is something I have noticed at a lot of these types of accommodations. Trust me, people will notice. The other suggestion is that if the vrbo listing says check out is noon, then it is noon. Not 10 am, not 11 am. NOON. So plan for your nexts guests and cleaners with that in mind and don’t bother the guests in there now or show up at the door early. Don’t even ask what time we plan to leave. That is our business, not yours.

Charming location in the Old City
The apartment was central to a beautiful area of Bilbao. Jose, the host, recommends wonderful restaurants and neighborhoods to visit. Not far from the Guggenheim. The apartment was very clean and comfortable!

It is remarkably close to tram and metro stations, as well as food shopping. The host is very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely highly recommend this place to family and friends.

Apartment was as described and we enjoyed our stay very much. In spite of the cold weather, the heaters worked fine! The Guggenheim did not disappoint and Bilbao is a city worth exploring. Patri in the Tayko hotel was a memorable meal

Great apartment in the old city. Fully appointed with all the comforts of home, including a washer/dryer. Within walking distance of the river attractions, restaurants, and the Guggenheim. Parking across the river at the train station requires a short walk.

We have had 5 nice days in the apartment. Everything is available for self catering. Supermarket Carrefour almost next door, and tram just around the corner. Restaurants and small interesting shops in old town nearby.

Great old town apartment
Well equipped & furnished apartment in the old town, with close access to the Mercado de la Ribera, the tram and walkway to the Guggenheim. We stayed very comfortably with 2 young kids. Jose is a great host & very responsive. We are particularly grateful that he alerted us to a phone we left behind after departing for the airport!

Quaint and perfect
Being located in Casco Viejo gave us the added benefit of the old city with super easy access via metro, trambia, and Renfe (train). You really don't need a vehicle. It was cozy and fit the 5 of us (toddler in bed with us) with ease. Being the first floor apartment was excellent for ease in and out with said toddler and all of the stomping she does. Jose was easy and amazing to communicate with. He was eager to share sites to see and suggestions for trips. Very helpful when a first timer in Bilbao! Would absolutely recommend to my network of art/culture/old vs new crew of travellers!!!

Terrible smell.
Centrally located in old town. Apartment was clean and functional. Jose was very helpful and bought new pillows and changed the bed sheets again after our first night but the smell was still strong. We decided to cut short our stay and he refunded us the money for the last couple of nights.

Jose was wonderful!
Our host couldn't have been more accommodating! We got lost on our way there and Jose was patient and helpful. (Be sure to use Bilbao in the search address, not just the street name.) The lovely apartment had perfect location in the Old Gothic Quarter, near shops, restaurants and attractions: across the street from the Ribera market, great walk along the river to the Guggenheim Museum and Santiago Calatrava's Zubiziri bridge, and to Casco Viejo for Pinxtos.

Location Location Location!
We stayed in this wonderful apartment for 3 nights and loved every minute exploring Bilbao. The location is perfect in the heart of the old town and a one minute walk to the river. Communication with Jose was excellent, from the booking to being welcomed warmly at the apartment. I spent many hours researching accommodation and we could not have been happier with our choice. Jose had thought of everything, even down to factor 50 sun cream in the bathroom cabinet. There is no need for a taxi from the airport. Jose’s directions were simple to follow using public transport. Highly recommended.

Clean and convenient!
Apartment was very clean, lots of things to do within walking distance. Jose was super accommodating and helpful. Parking is 10€ per day if you have a vehicle but public transportation (subway station) is very close. I would love to come back to Bilbao and would rent this apartment again.

Spacious accommodations and a great location
We really enjoyed our stay in this 2-bedroom apartment in the Old City of Bilbao. The tram stop “Ribera” was a 2 minute walk so using the Barik Card to transport ourselves around this beautiful city was effortless. The apartment had a separate kitchen/dining area from the living room, a large bathroom/shower and a very comfortable bed. It is rare that I sleep thru the night anymore but I did more than once in this apartment. There was occasional street noise but nothing distracting. Restaurants and shopping everywhere in our neighborhood. We would definitely stay here if we had the chance to visit this beautiful city again. José was so great meeting us at the apartment upon our late arrival from Santiago (nearly 2100!). He took time to explain how things worked and where we could shop for provisions. A very good experience!

We loved our stay. Jose was easy to communicate with and very responsive. The appartment has everything you need. We loved the location, easy to walk to sights and very close to tram station which is super easy to use. Great bakery/cafe very close for good coffee and breakfast. We'd stay here again.

Very clean, perfect location, great owner
The flat is in a perfect location. Close to all the shops in old town. Easy walk to the Guggenheim. Great little cafe 1 min away. We stayed in the flat with two adults and two kids and would highly recommend it.

Great location, great apartment and very helpful landlord.
Jose is a very helpful and accommodating landlord. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. The first night we were not happy with the cover on the bed because it was too warm to sleep under. I called Jose in the morning and he came over and showed us the 'summer' cover and left us extra sheets to use if that cover was too warm.
The apartment has the best set of pots and pans we have seen in any apartment. We told him we preferred to make espresso on the stove and he pulled out an excellent espresso pot from a drawer. There were spices and other basics in the apartment you would need if you are cooking. Besides the Mercado, there are a number of small groceries in the neighborhood plus a Carefore (sp?) SuperMercado less than a block away.
It rained a good bit during our stay and we were stuck inside a couple of times. The apartment is roomy so it was not too unpleasant to be inside. We could sit by the front windows and people watch while we drank our wine.
There are no bars or other noisy businesses on the street so it is quiet for sleeping. Many good bars and restaurants are within a few blocks and the 'Mercado' and the river are just half a block away.
Jose is so accommodating he even volunteered to drive us to the Airport at 4:30AM when we had to leave.
We would definitely stay here again.

AbFab Artekale Apartment
A wonderful apartment in the Casco Viejo. And never has an apartment been as easy to arrive at - a tram from the bus station almost to the front door. Also, waiting at the front door was Jose who then showed us around his charming two bedroom apartment with its well stocked kitchen and welcoming fruit bowl.
Obligatory trips to the Guggenheim ( for me, worth it just to see the Anselm Keifer “Between Two Rivers” ) and Portugalete. Other trips to Bermeo via Gernika ( which I now associate with pimientos, whilst not forgetting the other ) and Plentzia where we had a good menu del dia at a waterside restaurant. Each evening finished at Plaza Nueva.

Ideal location
Spotlessly clean apartment in the old town (best place to be). Everything you need to experience Bilbao close at hand. Bars, restaurants, coffee & fabulous pastries, amazing market. We got a taxi to and from the airport and walked everywhere. Only negative was noise coming from upstairs apartment on our last night. However, Jose Ramon, seemed aware of problem and hopefully this does not happen often. I must stress that this did not spoil our holiday in a great apartment and ideal location. I would most certainly stay there again.

It was ideally situated in the middle of bars, restaurants and shops in the old town and was a very pleasant 20 minute walk from the Guggenheim. Good apartment in a great location
The apartment exactly described on the HomeAway website. There is reasonable living space and the furniture is comfortable. The main bed was very comfortable. The kitchen had all the usual appliances with the exception of a dishwasher. There were ample heaters in the apartment, but no air conditioning. We thought this might cause a problem as we were staying in mid-summer (early August), but we were lucky with the weather and just leaving a window open was enough to keep things comfortable on most days.
The apartment is not large, but we found it adequate over our 1 week stay. As a couple in a two bedroom apartment, we used the second bedroom for storage of bags, which was helpful. Bathroom was also well appointed and very clean – as was the whole apartment.
The TV is Spanish channels only. WiFi Internet access was excellent – reliable and quite fast.
The location of the apartment is probably its greatest asset. It in inside the old town area, with a multitude of restaurants, tapas and pintxo bars all around. Virtually all the main attractions of Bilbao are within walking distance. All the old town sites are under 5 minutes walk, the Goggenhein and the new town commercial district are about 10-15 minutes away. If you prefer to use the excellent tram service, then the Ribea station is about 50m away. Each station has a ticket machine, so it is very easy to use.
Special mention should go to Jose (the owner). We arrived at Bilbao at 4pm and he was there to meet us in the street outside. He helped us take our bags upstairs – second floor but more than the usual number of steps due to the height of the first floor. He not only provided a welcome bottle of wine, but a large bowl of delicious fresh fruit and a litre of milk. The kitchen cupboards were also well stocked with common commodities such as salt, pepper, oil, flour, sugar, tea, coffee, etc. Makes the first night much easier and saves bringing/buying these items that are necessary but used in small quantities. Jose does not really speak any English, but his happy, eager attitude allowed us to communicate all the necessary things.
The only negative about staying in the old town is car parking. There is virtually none available. We parked in the underground public car park near the main theater building – about 7 minutes walk. Rate is $17 Euro per day.
We can highly recommend this apartment, with the only real proviso being the air conditioning.
