Lovely traditional place

Rustikale Zimmer im outdoor Trakt, sauber und mit Aussicht. Frühstück - wie immer - sehr ansprechend Abendessen wegen Krankheit nicht möglich

Disaster

It’s a unique lodge in a very pleasant and quiet location

There is no back up for load shedding. When this happens, as it did during our visit,nothing works. Because of this we cut our visit short to one night. The lodge has great potential. We got the feeling that there is a lack of funds to maintain the property

Disappointing stay

It is close to 'Die Venue' where we were attending a wedding. And the breakfast ladies were so friendly and helpful- they made us such a tasty breakfast. We felt well looked after by them.

I understand South Africa is going through power cuts but the property did not have sufficient alternatives. There were only 2 candles and no torches as an alternative to that! And when the power was on the heater tripped the power and everything shut down! They advised to turn the heater off which then left the rooms sooo cold. The tables were so dusty and the blankets on the bed were dusty also, which means it had not been cleaned before we got there.

Hawksmoor House is a wonderful place with lovely staff and superb views of the mountains

We liked the staff a lot - Lloyd (the manager) at the helm, always ready to help (e.g. getting a taxi for our younger son) and give us information about the area as well as the staff cooking and serving breakfast; breakfasts were great, done to our order and accompanied by orange juice, to which we helped ourselves, and coffee the the staff brought to us (2 or even 3 cups if required) We liked the gardens, the trees and flowers therein as well as the views of the mountains

Very little: the light outside our bedroom didn't work. As the size of the "plot" is considerable the walk from the parking area to our bedroom was fairly long

Hawksmoor House is a wonderful place

The Hawksmoor House is a beautiful property on a large plot; the main house and 2 other buildings are in typical Cape Dutch thatched house, full of lovely paintings and old furniture; the gardens are beautiful and have many different trees and plants; there's a nice swimming pool, which we sadly didn't use (missed our chance on the day of arrival; it rained on our 2nd day and then it wasn't warm enough). The views of the mountains near Stellenbosch add to the beauty of the place The House' manager, Lloyds, is a very pleasant and efficient man who is present much of the day and who was around the whole of our time (= 3 days). Also the staff cooking and serving breakfast and doing up the bedrooms are very efficient, helpful and friendly

Some fittings (windows) are a bit worn; some lights don't work We somehow didn't appreciate that Stellenbosch was quite far (about 20 km) but with a car, which we had, that wasn't really a problem

Pleasant

Lovely country atmosphere. Room was comfortable.

Breakfast was not very welcoming with no explanation of menu. Choices were limited. Path to room was very dark in the evening.

Not worth the money AT ALL.

Shower pressure was good, comfortable bed. Breakfast was good.

The place is very run down. Lights not working, lampshades falling down, shower drain was blocked, VERY dirty windows, no air conditioning and a fan that hardly blows. Bugs everywhere.

The hotel has no water during load sheddings and thee load sheddings are likely to continue for the next couple of year

Disappointing

The main building is beautiful.

- Our room had ants pouring in - thousands. The manager blamed the heat and didn't looked fazed as he used a spray can to kill them all. At least pretend to be embarrassed or say sorry? - Our shower drain was clogged and flooded our entire bedroom. - Our room was MILES from the main house and the pool - a sad converted outhouse. - The pool was really quite disgusting, the sunbeds rusty, just sad. - The hotel is a 30 min drive from Stellenbosch, the manager said the local town was too dangerous to eat in. - The only hotel we've seen in SA to not run a generator during load-shedding.

Exceptional

So warm and welcoming, the perfect contrast to a few days in Cape Town. The staff were excellent and so warm and accommodating. The rooms were beautiful and plenty to do in the surrounding area. A perfect escape. Would definitely revisit and the wine is exceptional, an added bonus. I haven't even started on the gardens.......just book and go.

nice place in de vineyards!

stunning place, with loads of green and resting areas. nice pool area with a look over table mountain. great breakfast with very friendly staff. what’s was not to like!!!

pool could be cleaned more for the eye to make it more appealing. for the rest perfect!

The gardens and views from various places were worth staying for alone!!!!

This grand old dame was just fabulous!!!! Do yourself a favour and stay here!!! The ambience, decor and atmosphere were so special!!! It’s like over 300 years old and such a special place to stay!!!

Very disappointed

The spacious room with stoep

Very little or none directions to the property. They gave us bottled water that was murky and tasted terrible. So I’m sure it’s tap water. They have unsecured payment method. I was very disappointed to wake up after my wedding night to find out that they have left us only one cup and no spoon for coffee. I had to phone the owner/manager to get it sorted. We definitely did not experience a welcoming stay. Definitely not value for money.

It was a pleasant stay overall - maybe just needs a little extra love in some places.

The grounds of Hawksmoor were stunning. The staff were very friendly and went above and beyond to assist us in having a lovely stay. We arranged a picnic and also booked our dinner for us. We enjoyed all those aspects of the stay.

As SA is currently expecting regular load shedding we would have expected the rooms to be better kitted out for no power. There was no lighter in our room, the candles had burnt down so that they couldn't be lit and overall that was not well prepared. We also found the breakfast sub-par.

The house was near shops in Stellenbosch. It was a beautiful location with a lake and vineyards. Breakfast was fantastic! The host was lovely and brought us anything we needed. There were candles, matches and torches for load shedding

Very pretty, big rooms, nice bathrooms and lovely views

Road noise from the N1 is not as peaceful as it looks but maybe we on the West Coast aren’t so use to traffic noise.. in doors you can’t hear the road noise so that is nice..
