Nestled in Kansas, this charming house for $319 per night is a great option for your next vacation. Settled far out in the Tallgrass Prairie of the rolling Flint Hills, with wide and endless views in all directions from a private hilltop, the True Prairie Home stands up to its name. In all seasons the house is surrounded by the magnificent and unique sea of grass. More than half of the year, the grasslands present the black dots of roaming cattle, everywhere. In late March / early April, the winter grasses are burned, with the prairie fires and their black earth aftermath a sight to see—the more so when knowing the young grasses will sprout up immediately after and color the rejuvenated prairie in fabulous greens. From the house, the prairie opens up a large pasture to hikers, painters, photographers, and dreamers. On all four sides the house has inviting porches for lazy gazing, reading and, again, for dreaming away… All rooms in the True Prairie Home, which was custom built by local craftsmen from native limestone blocks, have huge windows which frame the natural art of the prairie. Handmade walnut doors, cabinets, floors, and staircase, complement the extensive interior stonework. The ample wall space and soaring ceilings provide a backdrop for the truly great, original art collected by the owners. The style presents a tasteful blend of the old days with contemporary design. On the first floor the living area is centered around a beautiful twenty foot stone wall and fireplace; the kitchen is fully equipped with tasteful materials and modern appliances; and the rustic dining table seats eight. The master bedroom features an interior stone wall, a large adjoining bath, and French doors opening to the expansive porch. On the second floor, you will find another large bedroom, bath, and a spacious den; complete with Western art and a queen size leather sleeper sofa. And everywhere you look, the setting will take your breath away and stay in your soul…

Directions are good and check in was easy. House is beautiful, modern, and is well outfitted for cooking. Plenty of space for the four people on our trip to stake out a spot and watch the rain, and cows, move across the hills. Looking forward to going back for some stargazing.

This was our second time staying at this lovely house. The building itself is a work of art and Debbie and Jerry have filled it with more art, lovely furnishings and interesting objects. The porches are the best ever for sunrises and sunsets, and in our case, a full moon. The kitchen is well-equipped.

Stayed at this property in June 2023. The views are beautiful with fantastic sunsets seen from the back porch. Place is decorated beautifully, and I had everything I needed for meal prep in the kitchen. Really enjoyed hearing the cows located in adjoining pasture, coyotes howling at dusk, and the wild turkeys. Cottonwood Falls is approximately 20 minutes away. Would definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at the Prairie Home! It was just what we needed for a peaceful and serene getaway. Beautiful home, tastefully decorated…..and very QUIET! Except for the occasional cows mooing, which we loved : ) We enjoyed sipping coffee on the wrap around deck, watching movies at night and hiking the Tallgrass Prairie Reserve. Social group dinner weekend. Had an absolutely amazing stay, this being our second time, two couples with us first time. All the amenities you could ever need. Beautiful views of the Prairie, quiet and relaxing. We were even treated with a prairie thunderstorm, followed by an amazing sunset! very friendly neighborhood dog came and greeted us on our last day. Just wanted some attention, so we spoiled him! We will definitely return.
