ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Our home is an amazing historic district named Dignowity Hill which is very close to downtown San Antonio. Dignowity Hill was originally one of San Antonio's first upper-class, exclusive residential areas tracing its history to 1854 and its founder, Dr. Anthony Michael Dignowity. There are still many large mansions around the neighborhood tracing back to the 1800s. Today Dignowity Hill is seeing an amazing resurgence and, according to Zillow, is the hottest area for real estate in San Antonio. Local Food Favorites: The Burnt End Melt ($8) at Dignowity Meats This Dignowity Meats favorite is one of the primary reasons why patrons tend to snake around the outside ordering window during lunch service. A healthy dose of smoked brisket burnt ends is topped with a straight cheddar mac and more shredded cheese with housemade pickles and a thin slice of pear. It’s all stuffed and pressed into a ciabatta bun and grilled on high heat. And it can be handled without making too much of a mess. “It probably sells at least five times better than any other sandwich on the menu,” owner Andrew Samia said of the sandwich. “We can run out of certain menu items and customers will understand, but that isn’t one of them.” Dignowity Meats, 1701 E. Houston St., 210-462-1496. Hours: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (lunch), 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (dinner) Mondays through Fridays. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, closed Sundays. Facebook: @DignowityMeats GETTING AROUND Walking - you can walk one block to Dignowity Park and about four blocks to the Hays Street Bridge and Alamo Brewery. Biking - San Antonio has a program called B-Cycle where you can rent bikes throughout the downtown area. There is a B-Cycle station at Dignowity Park which is about two blocks away. Uber/Lyft - you can easily get a ride through ride sharing services and all major attractions including the Riverwalk and Alamo in downtown are only about 5 minutes away via car/Uber. I would recommend Uber/Lyft so you don't have to worry about parking around the tourist areas and the ride won't cost much at all! City of San Antonio Short Term Rental Permit #2019-0199
