This home features a large kitchen that opens to the living room and dining room overlooking the bay. The house comfortably sleeps 6 with its two bedrooms and a loft. The master bedroom suite has a private balcony perfect for watching the sunset. The master has a King bed while the 2nd bedroom has a queen and a twin and the loft has a queen futon bed. There is a large screen porch on the front of the house perfect for enjoying the sunset or just taking a nap. New in 2023 complete renovation of both bathrooms, new floors upstairs and new slider in bedroom. New in 2019 and 2020 Fire place in living room, king bed in master, queen bed in second bedroom and new twin bed, new dining set on deck, new stainless steel refrigerator and new heat pump AC unit.

Beautiful property! Gunnar (owner) was incredibly attentive and helpful even suggesting a GREAT Indian restaurant in town. He also shared with us the dishwasher was broken PRIOR to our visit, to be replaced Nov 1. Gunnar mentioned the recent upgrades and scheduled appliance replacements in the coming weeks.

Clean, spacious house with an excellent view of water on both sides! Very relaxing and rejuvenating. Perfect for families with kids who enjoy building sand castles, swimming, beach combing, kayaking, and watching birds. Host responds quickly and is very welcoming. Quiet, Private beach with fabulous star gazing. Definitely recommend!

Our family chose to stay here for a quick end of summer getaway. It was a great location to enjoy the private beach or take a 20-25 minute drive to more public beaches and boardwalk. Just be sure to bring your bug spray, the green flies can be distracting.

This was our second year staying for a week at this property on peaceful and relaxing Prime Hook Beach. We are still impressed with how well-stocked this rental is with everything you need to make yourself at home and have fun on the beach. The beds are comfortable, the view is amazing, and the owners continue to improve the property. Since we had last stayed here in 2022, the owners had remodeled both bathrooms. This year we spent more time enjoying the screened-in porch—it’s a great place to relax. We absolutely love visiting this house and hope to come back again in the future!

This house is a must-book if you love the beach but hate having to travel to one. Just walk out the back door and you're a couple hundred feet from the water. You can leave your beach gear down by the water and shoot inside for the bathroom, lunch, or just a break. The beach never had more than 15 people on it for the whole stretch of beach.
We had a couple of nice thunderstorms roll through which were crazy to watch. One day the flies were a bit much, due to the wind blowing west to east, so we took a ride to Dewey Beach for lunch and then Bethany Beach for stuff to do with the kids.
The main town area, which is about 15 min away has a Food Lion, Walgreens, and Family Dollar. The house has all the stuff you need to cook if you so choose. We used the BBQ a couple times and it was great.
Fishing, on Route 1 south of Primehook Rd is a great tackle shop in the Valero gas station lot. I got a basic surf casting setup for $49 and spent another $30 on tackle. We caught a few fish, nothing worth keeping, but the kids loved it. At any time, we could just walk down to the water and toss a line in.....probably the best part of the trip.
In town, you MUST eat at both Dough Bar and Irish Eyes Pub.
The only annoying part was the number of mosquitos under the house where you park your car. Unloading and loading the luggage was a death sentence with bug bites and then they'd be in the car.
Other than that, the trip and house were perfect. We look forward to staying again.

Our first stay at the Buoy House, but not our last! We could not have designed a more ideal spot for our 4-year-old daughter's first trip to the ocean. House is perfectly appointed with all the comforts of home, with the beach just steps away. Beds were comfy so we all slept well! The owners said they had everything we needed for the beach and they didn't undersell--fully stocked with all the toys and beach equipment we could imagine and some things we wouldn't have even thought to bring! The location is calm and quiet, and a short drive to restaurants and attractions so the perfect blend. We even spotted dolphins right off the shore!
And Gunnar and Dorothy were super communicative, which was really helpful since it was our first time in Prime Hook.
As they warned us, being right on the shore brings bugs, so we did contend with the mosquitos. Just be mindful of the door when loading and unloading to try and keep them out. A minor nuisance that just goes with the territory.
Our only regret was that our stay was so short. Five-star house, five-star hosts for this very special spot.

This was my 2nd stay at the Buoy House. This beautiful home has amazing Bay views and everything you need for escape from the busyness of life. The closeness of the beach is a plus. Gunnar is quick to respond to any communication and is desiring all his guests to have a wonderful time.

A hidden treasure on the Delaware Bay next to the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. The house had every thing we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. The view of the Bay from the house is amazing with beautiful sunrises. Be sure to bring food and drinks as the closest grocery is about 15 minutes away in Milton. The kitchen was stocked with the items needed to make and eat meals. Bring plenty of sunscreen and bug spray. With the proximity to marshland, the bugs can get pretty bad at times. However, the house’s screened in back porch allows you to be outdoors even when the bugs are bad. All of the beds we’re comfortable. The outdoor shower was a favorite to rinse of salt and sand from the beach. Jellyfish were already present in the Bay, bring swimwear to protect you and your family from stings. The water is relatively shallow except at high tide. I highly recommend this rental.

If you are looking for quiet time away and your own space on the beach, this is the place to stay. The location is completely convenient for trips back to the house for lunch or to reapply sunscreen so you don’t have to haul everything with you for the day. There was plenty of beach gear available for use during our stay. We would absolutely stay here again.

We had a wonderful and relaxing time at the Buoy house. It is the perfect place to unwind and relax and it’s great for little kids and families. I loved that they could just play on the beach all day and we could see them from the deck. Tons of wildlife to look at and explore. It was our first beach bonfire also!
The house was very comfortable (bed were so cozy!) and well stocked. And the view and breezes were amazing. Gunner was extremely accommodating and helpful. We will definitely stay again!

This house is perfection - much more of a “home away from home” than a rental. It’s obvious in every detail that Gunnar and Dorothy truly care for their property and their guests. And the location can’t be beat! Everything was spotless and the new AC was much appreciated. We were also grateful for how generously stocked the home was- kitchenware, supplies, and- the beach toys!!!! The kayaks made our trip! (What a treat it was to not have to pack a ton of toys, umbrellas, chairs, etc- they even have water shoes!) Everything at the house was in great working condition, comfy beds, etc. The ocean view is the highlight and greets you at the front door, is right there when you make your morning coffee and sit in the comfortable living room to drink it, it’s a breathtaking view to watch the sunset with dinner in the dining room, or when playing games at the table and so much more!
(Add to that the awesome stereo system you can connect to Bluetooth!) The beach is literally steps from the back door. It’s quiet and calm, giving a feeling of seclusion except for a few other families who were all so nice. The bay water is warm, the depth is shallow and perfect for kid-height- and the ghost crabs are an absolute hoot! This rental is truly perfect for families with kids (for anyone, but for us the ease was very notable, especially after seeing families lugging their beach supplies for the day from the parking lots at other area beaches)- here you have the beach steps away to walk home for short potty/lunch/etc breaks or even just to run back if you forget something. Being able to see the beach area from the house in case one needs to stay back while one runs home for something, the outdoor shower - all so very convenient. We found this to be the best of spots as we had a very private location to relax, but only a short drive away to other also delightful towns along the Coastal Highway for delicious restaurants and fun boardwalks! (We loved that we could stay on our beach playing or floating on a kayak, or explore - we visited two museums, the refuge at Prime Hook, tons of shops, saw a band on the boardwalk, rode the rides at Funland, and ate so much delicious seafood! You could do so much or so little.) The area of Prime Hook gives much enjoyment and tranquility. The Buoy House exceeded our expectations, offering all we could possibly want and need, and allowing us a dreamy vacation. Our 8-year-old adds: “5 stars! Best vacation ever!” And we fully agree!!

We were close enough to Lewes and Rehoboth Beach to enjoy attractions there if we wanted to, but when the crowds got annoying we could go back to Prime Hook and relax.

The kitchen is well-equipped and we didn't lack for anything we needed to cook meals at the house. The view of the bay from the living room and deck is amazing. We loved this house and sincerely hope to come back and visit again.

We had an absolutely fantastic time at the Buoy House and are already planning a return trip. The house is perfectly equipped, and then some. We particularly enjoyed the kayaks, crab traps, fishing cart, and grill. The house offers all sorts of technology, but between the sound of the bay out back and the cicadas out front, we didn't use it at all. The location is a dream; remote, private and picturesque. We had a few stormy days, but even the rain days were incredible. Gunnar is a phenomenal host, super responsive and extremely well organized. We feel in love with Prime Hook and The Buoy House!

This clean, beautiful home has everything one could want for a delightful getaway at the bay. We appreciated the comfortable surroundings and the well stocked kitchen and extra paper products. The screened in porch was enjoyable and it was nice to have the rinsing station hose reach up to the deck to keep things tidy.

This was our second stay at Bouy House. We knew it was a do-over after our first stay last summer. Nothing has changed from our first review from a year ago. Its a great young family vacation spot and a super host who furnishes the house with everything needed.

Spectacular home
Everything about our experience was exceptional. The inside of the home is so clean, comfortable and well-appointed. The outside is perfection. The deck facing the water is wide and gives an unobstructed view of the beach - an amazing place to watch the sunrise with coffee. The screened-in porch on the front is such a relaxing place to read, snooze and listen to the bird song. There is nothing you could want in this home that isn't provided. I truly can't wait to return!
