My husband and I rented the cottage for PLNU Parents Weekend. We even had our son stay to get a break from dorm life. While it is a little drive from PLNU we still enjoyed it. Del Mar is beautiful. The cottage is in a wonderful neighborhood and had all you need for cooking or just relaxing. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. The backyard is charming. On our last full day we walked across the street to enjoy some relaxation on beach. The garage had towels, boards and sand toys for us. We highly recommend it and would love to stay again.

Everything was great except sleeping was difficult without air conditioning in the bedroom as it was hot and muggy that weekend. But so great otherwise and so near the fabulous dog beach— We’ll definitely go again! Wonderfully responsive hosts. Private, quiet, comfy.

The property is quaint and cozy. Very pleasant. Well maintained landscaping. It is a 2 unit house so another guest could be renting the front of the home while you stay in this unit in the back but you do have a nice private area of the yard gated off for just this unit which is a pleasant place to relax. Comfy beds and beach supplies available for use makes this a really great option for small families with kids!

Out-of-state family members spent a wonderful week in the Octopus Hideaway. It provided a great home base to attend our niece's wedding, visit with family, and tour our favorite areas around town when we lived in San Diego and Del Mar. Family members frequented the area beaches and used the boogie boards and laundry machines provided in the rental.

Our family has been going to San Diego for many, many years. My siblings and I are grown with young adult children now who have all grown up going to Solana Beach and Del Mar. My husband, our adult daughter and I stayed here. Other family were in the neighborhood. This place was clean, comfortable, and had easy access to the beach. We also liked the private yard. We will be back.

Perfect stay!
Perfect location and perfect space for our family of four with two small children. Girls Trip 2021 at the Octopus Hideaway
After our regular location for our annual girls trip was closed, we stumbled upon the Octopus Hideaway for this year's trip and we are so happy we did! The location is amazing, the cottage has everything you need, and is absolutely adorable. Brenda was super quick to respond to any questions. We enjoyed our stay there so much that we have already booked next year's trip there!

My cousin, sis-in-law and I spent a couple nights here, and we had such a nice, relaxing time. Though this is a duplex, it felt very private. It has it’s own side entrance and private fenced in yard. It’s the perfect little beach cottage and was very clean. The property managers are responsive and helpful, and they left us delicious coffee and a very sweet note. The location is great as well, super short walk to the beach and many great restaurants nearby. I would highly recommend this place!

The way that this home is set up you have an amazing personal backyard space that is great for kids because it essentially triples+ your living space. We spent most of our days outside even though it was rather overcast during our stay. I was able to do some nice quiet yoga on the side of the house while the kids played and knew that they were safely locked in and couldn’t get into trouble. Very close walk to the beach, which we didn’t spend much time at because of the bad weather but look forward to enjoying during our next stay. I went for runs along the beach every morning and it was delightful. There are awesome restaurants and bars within walking distance. Both directions in Solana Beach and downtown Del Mar. I can’t wait to come back and enjoy it some more during non-Covidy times. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Fabulous much needed vacation!

We are elderly and we found the bathroom a bit challenging. The toilet is extremely low and no pull bars to assist. While the bedding was nice, the bed is very noisy. The furniture for older people is not comfortable. Getting up was difficult. I think a few more details about the property would help older people to make a better choice for their needs. There are two properties connected; much like a duplex. I don’t think the ad indicated that detail. The picture on the website of the backyard appears to be close to the beach but there is a wall and the beach is not close. (In reviewing the picture again, I think it’s the sky. Duh!). I thought the blue sky in the picture was the beach. The garage was not accessible for our car. Too small. We found the wall heater inadequate for us. The overall property is well maintained inside and out but not what we expected. It’s an older property with lovely upgrades in the decor. It’s perfect for the younger generation but it wasn’t for us. The decor is well done and appealing. I will get more detail in the future. We appreciated the extra hour to depart. The manager was very accommodating. MyMistake was assuming rather than asking more questions. We wanted to be on the beach. Darling vintage cottage 2 blocks from the beach
We really enjoyed are short stay at the beach haus, it was a pleasure to walk two blocks to the beautiful Del Mar beach, and the cottage suited our needs perfectly. The bed was very comfortable, the kitchen was adequate, and the outdoor seating area is charming

This was a chance for me to return to SD and reconnect with the area. Wonderful neighborhood feel, with easy access not only to Del Mar and Solana beach but also the freeway. Family Friendly for Little Ones
Communication with the staff was great from start to finish! We arrived to the house earlier than anticipated and we were able to check in immediately. We had requested bed rails for our little ones and they were already set up upon arrival. We happened to come the hottest week of the year and it took a while for the house to cool down, even with the fan system. My only suggestion would be to add some larger tower fans (the little fans were barely doing the job). I appreciate that the house was well equipped with dishes, utensils, towels, toiletries, etc. I also appreciate the amount of beach amenities we were able to select from. Especially the beach wagons and lounge chairs. The house is a very quick and safe walk to the beach with plenty of crosswalks to choose from! The outside shower and hoses were an added bonus to get off any remaining sand. There is a small clothing line to hang wet items, but I wish there were more places to dry our suits and towels. Maybe add a clothing line on the side of the house over the concrete pad?.?.?.
We were hoping to be able to walk to restaurants for dinner, but it wasn't really practical with two toddlers. We did venture out one night (via car) for dinner to Rudy's and had the best fish tacos we've ever had!
Overall, our stay was amazing! I would definitely stay again.

Octopus Hideaway was everything I hoped it would be - clean and comfortable with pleasant decor and a lovely outdoor area. The kitchen was very well outfitted. Everything we needed for the beach was supplied and in good condition. Short, easy walk to beach. Friendly and responsive managers!

Perfect Vacation Get Away
If you are looking to book this property don’t hesitate...do it!! The location is amazing and the cottage is perfect. It’s cozy, clean and has everything you need. The beach is easily accessible, clean with perfect waves. We walked everywhere. I really can’t say enough good things about the Octopus Cottage!!! Brenda is an amazing host and she ensures everything you need is provided. I do believe the Octopus Cottage is going to become a yearly tradition!! There is absolutely nothing I would change!!! We had a wonderful and relaxing time.

Great trip in this wonderfully located and super cute hideaway!
We loved this property and our stay so close to the beach! The hideaway was super cute and clean, and a perfect space for our little family. Brenda was wonderful to work with and her providing a high chair, booster seat and Pac n play for our little one was so appreciated, As was the great assortment of beach gear and laundry facilities! We’ll definitely look this spot up again when we return. Thank you!

Amazing for traveling with little ones
The Octopus Hideaway was perfect for traveling with a baby and toddler. They have everything you need (pack n play, bathtub, highchair, booster seat, stroller, wagons, and umbrellas). You are a block from the beach and the private backyard with BBQ is perfect for entertaining. You can’t go wrong :)
