Comfortable, relaxing and very welcoming

The Hosts were wonderful to meet, very helpful in terms of recommending things to do around Miyanoshita, places to eat, ect. The Ryokan was simple, but clean and comfortable and the onsen was a great addition! The place is easily accessible from the train station. I hope to come back one day soon!

Very good place to stay, I will definitely come back

It is clean and it has its own onsen. You can also have access to extra ammenities such as water and tea. The owner was very friendly.

Great experience and would stay there again!

The host is incredibly friendly, even taking the time to plan our sightseeing route for us. The onsen is amazing and private. We loved the experience staying in a typical ryokan, and the host made it that much more enjoyable.

Would come again!

The owner was super friendly and gave great tips on what to do and where to eat. Room was clean, futon beds were surprisingly comfortable.

It was a bit noisy, as we could hear the street and the hallway outside our room. There’s also no private bathroom, but the onsen makes up for it.

Nice, traditional, centrally located inn in the Hoken area with an onsen bath

Lovely traditional inn in the centre of Moyanoshita, centrally within the Hakone area and easy to reach from the raipwqy station. The room was kept very clean and tidy and nicely equipped in traditional Japanese style with effective air conditioning. The onsen bath was available both mornings and evenings and was a great way to relax, while I was there I was always alone in the bath. There are a few restaurants nearby, I ate at the local Korean and had a delicious meal (the Japanese options were shut while I was there on a Tuesday night).

The host was very friendly, probably a bit too friendly. He offered a lot of advice about what to do in the area but was a bit too intense for me.

The owner was very nice! Extremely helpful!! This is a great location to explore the Hakone area.

Make sure you get to a restaurant by 7:00 pm. Many of them close very early.

Traditional Ryokan, above and beyond helpful owner

The owner sat us down and went through a whole itinerary of things we should do, restaraunts we should visit during the days we had booked in Hakone. Owner was fabulous, upgraded us since there wasnt many people booked in. The best owner of an inn we had experienced. Will be back for sure! If you want a traditional japanese stay....this is the one!

I paid for the breakfast but i never received it....not sure what happened there. Nothing negative to report.

The facilities are absolutely excellent. Mr Wiser was incredibly hospitable, it’s full of excellent recommendations for places to eat and things to do. Could not be happier with all stay here

Authentic, hospitable and clean!

Perfect little ryokan for those that are looking for a friendly and cosy place to stay. Staff were extremely hospitable and the location was great, only 10 minutes from Gora station and 15 minutes to Hakone central. Would definitely come back!

A beautiful traditional Japanese experience.

The accommodation is beautiful. You get a true Japanese experience with the beautiful rooms and onsen. Location is great for doing the Hakone loop. The host is very welcoming, kind and helpful with navigating the area. Loved the robes you are provided with to wear if you would like. Perfect for going to and from the onsen in. The place is very clean and very calming. This has been my favourite place to stay in Japan so far!

We were very pleased with the room, location, and onsen. We hope to stay again.

As English-speaking Americans, we did our best to navigate our trip around Japan with hand-waving and Google Translate. We were looking for a ryokan in the Odawara area, and are glad we chose Myojokan. We had zero research on the Hakone area. We expected to take a train to Miyanoshita, but we didn't expect a trolley ride up the mountain with three switch-backs. We were taken aback by the fun train ride and beautiful mountain view. We arrived at Myojokan, and were greeted by who we believed to be the owner. We sat down to discuss check-in, and he rushed through it in just a few minutes. He spoke some English, but we both had our translators handy, making the conversation easy. The owner then opened a paper tourist map of Hakone. He asked what we might be interested in visiting, and circled a few restaurants for us. He was polite, and seemed very interested in us and in engaging us with casual conversation. Lastly, he showed us to our room. Our room was spacious enough to comfortably sleep the three of us, with some space to relax over tea. After dinner, we took turns dipping into the Men's onsen. It was hot, but not too hot. I could've soaked in it for a while if I wanted. It's about the size of a large bathtub. It felt very private. I don't have any tattoos, but I get the feeling the owner would not have cared if I did. There is even a convenient mini-fridge with water bottles to cool yourself down. We only stayed one night. The next morning, we intended to leave at dawn to follow the trains up the mountain. The owner graciously offered any help and information he could give us for our tourist plans. He also offered to hold our bags until we got back. Overall, it was a relaxing visit. Being a small ryokan in a small town, it felt very mom-and-pop. We were in a hurry to see everything, but next time we visit Hakone for a longer stay, we will be staying at Myojokan.

I don't have much to criticize. Watch your step exiting the onsen washroom. I missed the shallow step, and nearly tripped. But that's my fault for not reading the sign. Be sure to give yourself time to visit Hakone. Everything seems to close at 1700, so if you're from the city, keep this in mind.

Pleasant

The Windows is not very good, we can hear the noise from outside whole night, cars and motors, so we can't seep very well

Perfect for our needs and even without the food we enjoyed. Amazing hiking trails just steps away.

Everything was nice. Currently no food is served.

Would be great if they could offer at least morning coffee but may be COVID regulation

Very nice ryokan authentic experience

Very nice homie stay. Very quiet location and the traditional ryokan room experience. On the bus route to the famous lake and the Hakone Shrein. Grossery store across the road. Clean room and onsen.
