Murrayfield Park Guest House

Bedroom was spacious enough, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. My room was on the ground floor, facing the main road but the street noise was not a problem. I had an ensuite shower room but I don't think every room has that. My shower room was clean but outdated and a rather tired toilet, but this is very typical for British guest house-type accommodation. Clean towels and new bars of soap provided. Tea bags and instant coffee sachets provided in room, along with small electric kettle, sugar, stirrers, etc. There are a few parking spaces directly outside the guest house, which is extremely useful.

No major problems and I already plan to stay at this guest house again. The ensuite shower room / toilet was clean but just a bit tired. The flush had trouble to get the loo paper around the bend, but ultimately it functioned; the shower wasn't fancy but it worked, and the sink taps didn't drip (major win!) Looking at the photos on Booking.com, some of the shower rooms shown seem to be more modern, so it might vary by room and I suspect it will be upgraded soon. Some people might have been a little disappointed with the shower room, but I have low expectations of British BYB bathrooms. In the end it did the job, including the toilet after a couple of flushes. Small suggestion. The hotel information online clearly stated that there would be no reception staff present after 5pm, which is fine. I informed the hotel through the website that I would arrive about 6:30pm. As expected, there was no one there and only a locked front door. On the door was a hand-written note giving instructions about remote check-in. I personally had some challenges with the telephone numbers given; there were two and it wasn't clear which one was correct, and I had some issues with the format of number to use (I have a German phone and I had to add +44 to the beginning of the telephone numbers shown, even though I was in the UK). But once I got the call to connect, the person on the other end of the line was very friendly and the procedure to check in was quick and simple. I would recommend to get a nicer, printed information sheet for the front door, clarify the correct number to use, and suggest to add the +44. That will still work for Brits, but without the +44 it doesn't seem to work for non-UK phones. But in the end, it was 2 minutes of working it out and then it was all good. For checkout, I didn't see any instructions, so I just left the key where I found it and left. Perhaps a clearer key drop-off box would help?

The location was ideal for access to the venue we were attending.

On arrival there was no one to greet us or allow.us access. There was a notice on the door advising to call two numbers for the door code with no answer on both. Tried several times, left a message and still no reply. Finally had to message through Booking.com to finally get access. Not really a great first impression and as a woman, had I been on my own without my husband. It would've been very daunting. Room was in poor to fair condition. Overall, run-down looking. There was no staff to be seen on site to contact regarding any queries or issues. Not value for the money charged at all.
