I had a fantastic two-night stay at YHA Snowdon Pen-y-Pass for my Yr Wyddfa hiking trip. The location is absolutely brilliant for hikers, with direct access to the Pyg and Miners’ Tracks, and it was especially convenient for me as I travelled entirely by public transport.
The hostel was clean, comfortable and excellent value for money. I had a comfortable bunk bed and storage space, and the facilities were excellent: hot showers, a drying room for wet hiking gear, a large self-catering kitchen, comfortable communal areas, and a café/bar for food and drinks.
I particularly appreciated the free drinking-water refill station. Even better, YHA allows all hikers to use it, not only guests staying at the hostel. I think that is a genuinely thoughtful and useful service for people heading into the mountains. The staff were friendly, approachable and always happy to help whenever I asked for assistance.
I also really enjoyed the atmosphere and met hikers from several different countries. It feels like a proper mountain base rather than simply somewhere to sleep.
After a long day completing hike, coming back to a hot shower and comfortable place to rest was exactly what I needed.
Overall, an excellent experience and fantastic value. I would happily stay at YHA Snowdon Pen-y-Pass again and would definitely recommend it, particularly to hikers travelling by public transport.
The only negative during my stay was that the hostel Wi-Fi was not working properly, which was inconvenient because mobile signal around Pen-y-Pass was also very limited.
