Ivoni made checking-in very easy and welcoming. Throughout our stay, the staff were friendly and helpful, and ensured we were always happy. The hotel has an old fashion charm which was refreshing. We recommend an ocean view room because the ocean and the sunset were beautiful. Also, their small museum is worth a visit.
The hotel was a little frayed around the edges, but it was generally very appealing.

A large old world hotel (opened 1864?) beside the ocean. It has been refurbished with its historical features intact. Most restaurants are close to or overlook the sea. The full buffet breakfast was amazing and a great way to start the day. Inside the hotel is a museum containing the hotel's history. Colombo tourist areas are just a short Tuktuk ride away. Opposite the hotel, along the foreshore is a large public space. At the time if year I stayed there was kite flying, food stalls and many locals enjoying their afternoon and evening. The sea breeze kept the area cooler than in other areas of Colombo.
A few rooms can be noisy at night with a club nearby. (My second stay was much better).

Excellent location - unbeatable. Our balcony room facing the ocean was superb. The property is heritage with lots of history. The staff were very helpful- especially Fernando, Ivoni and Dashika. Appreciated the complimentary snacks on all evenings.
1. Several amenities need upkeep. The cushions in balcony chairs were torn and shabby. But the worst part was the organisation of events. Musical
events created so much noise that we couldn’t sleep. The entire room was vibrating from the music below.We were offered to use another room on the last day of our stay but there too was a lot
of noise. Management must review this policy of holding events that cause great hardship for guests.This is also stressful for the staff who need to manage the room guests. 2. The size of the room we were given was smaller than what was advertised on Booking.com. This room too we got after we complained.
