There’s lots to like about staying at the pickled frog - the location is fantastic for exploring the town centre, the staff are friendly, and the vibes in the common areas are very relaxed and social. The common area is great for lounging and meeting people and the staff are helpful in giving advice for things to do and see. We stayed during winter and found our room stayed warm and we were nice and cosy in bed.
The lack of cleanliness and building upkeep are the biggest downfalls of the pickled frog. The shower/bathroom ceiling and walls are covered in mould and cold condensation that drips on you while you’re in there, the smell in the kitchen is of old food, i could feel the springs in the mattress, the mattress and pillows were stained, and the bunk frames are rickety and wobble a lot when anyone moves. There were several taps/showers that just wouldn’t turn off and extremely limited space within the 4 bed dorm for anything except a small backpack per person. No where to hang or dry your towel if you’re on the bottom bunk.
