Inner Sanctuary at Sanctuary Place
About this condo rental
Situated in Savannah, this charming condo for $223 per night is a fantastic choice for your next trip. The property at Sanctuary Place is the winner of a Savannah Historic Preservation Award 2008. The Inner Sanctuary is a tri-level Loft with two bedrooms and convertible sofa on the center platform - sleeps six. Two and a half baths with a walk-in shower and cast-iron tub. Thoughtfully appointed and well stocked with home comforts. Careful attention to detail throughout - the exterior has been restored to its Victorian beginnings and the interior designed for modern needs. This dwelling is unique in Savannah and provides a true 'getaway experience.' Happy travels, Sanctuary Place Built in 1889 as St Paul's Episcopal Church by architect Eric Eichberg, this historic property hosted varied congregations over the past century before falling into disrepair around 2002. Restoration began in 2005 and the MIddle Loft was completed along with the exterior in 2008. The exterior sides, covered with stucco, were refitted with cyprus siding. The original vintage pine was reclaimed from the roof and sides to be used for the interior construction. The flying buttresses and bell-tower, both missing for decades, were reconstructed from historic photographs. About 50% of the stained glass was replaced with restoration glass, the surviving memorials were restored where possible. The interior was designed to flow upward and outward providing different vantage-points to view the original details. The original ceiling and support columns provided the framework for a minimalist design concept - further accentuating the remarkable Victorian era craftsmanship. The green and blue glass combine with amazing results to create a surprising amount of warmth for such a large volume of space. The Inner Loft is contemporary but the juxtaposition of the old and new creates a comfortable balance, giving the Loft the true feel of a home. Surveillance cameras located on exterior of building. This property was awesome. Everything was as described and looked better in person. Kevin was great.

If you are visiting the Savannah area, this property is where you want to stay! Perfect location.
The photos in the listing do not do it justice. To say it is stunning is an understatement!
Our host, Kevin, was fantastic!
Perfect experience for our family!

What a beautiful property! Just WOW! Our group consisted of 4 adult women on a girlfriend getaway. We wanted a nice place to stay that was convenient & walkable to City Market & the Riverfront. Well, we got it!
Kevin, the host, is FANTASTIC! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️He's one of the most easy going people I've ever met, & he's super accommodating. He's full of local information, too. You absolutely won't go wrong interacting with him & booking his place.
Parking was easy on the street right outside of the door, & we watched the street sweeping signs as instructed. In our case, we parked on the day we arrived & never moved the car until we left 4 days later. Win-win!
The free bus system, the dot, has a stop one block away near Forsyth Park. We tried it out for fun, & it runs all the way to the riverfront! Just pay attention for the times, & you'll be set if you don't want to walk. (It's an easy walk, though. We did it daily.)
The house itself is stunning inside. We probably took 50+ pictures of all the beautiful original details. The soaking tub has a handheld showerhead & curtain around it which made it faster for our group to get ready. We had enough closets to hang our clothes & bathrooms to get ready. A queen blow up we brought fit easily in the living room. The courtyard was a great place for us to have coffee in the mornings, too.
If we're back in the area, we'd love to stay here again.

"Wow, so cool", were the first words we all said as we walked in the door. If you are looking for a unique stay this is on the list. We enjoyed all the original historical architectural details of the church and the stain glass windows casting beautiful colors throughout while full of remembrances to loved ones.

We had a wonderful stay at the Inner Sanctuary! The pictures do not do this place justice. The kitchen is well stocked, the beds are comfortable, and there is enough room so you’re not on top of each other.
Kevin was great. He quickly replied to any question we had.
We are looking forward to our next visit!

Property is as exactly as pictured- very cool space.
1 ‘traditional’ bedroom, 1 loft bedroom and another bed in a suspended landing area near the loft. Worked well for a close group of friends!
Good location- we walked to most
Places, allowed us to explore easily. Uber was available quickly the few times we used it.
The owner was very kind and responsive- made check in/checkout a breeze (which we were very grateful for due to an early morning departure time).

We loved our stay. Kitchen well stocked. Walkable to shops and bars. Just some dusting to do in this old, beautiful church. Overall, perfect.✌️

The unit is in a converted church and has a fun and open floor plan. Very close to SCAD museum and historic area with a bunch of great restaurants.

Kevin responded to questions very quickly and gave us some great advice about things to do in Savannah. The property was extremely clean and well stocked. An easy walk to the park, a local coffee shop and some restaurants. We took Ubers into town at night - a quick ride and they usually got there in less than 5 minutes. Overall a great stay.

The church is amazing. It is the perfect blend of the old and the new architecturally. If you like morning sun the top floor delivers in abundance. The property is ideally placed to reach all the main attractions in Savannah, without being on a noisy street corner. There is a courtyard and fountain attached that was inviting and peaceful. Kevin met us at the property and showed us around. The accommodations are truly amazing.

What a wonderful stay! The loft is a beautiful space, well-decorated and comfortable. My husband and I were there over Thanksgiving with our adult children. I had a great time preparing a traditional meal in the kitchen...plenty of space which was stocked with all the cookware and utensils I needed. The main floor bedroom is private. There are two open loft spaces, each with a bed, which worked well for our family, but might not work if privacy is needed. The actual space is much more beautiful than the VBRO photos capture.
The Sanctuary is a great location for walking and exploring the historic district, restaurants, and shopping. The neighborhood is rich in character: Old Georgian homes with lots of color, stained glass and wrought iron accents. The sidewalks are lined with tall, Spanish moss covered oaks. Love the vibe and aesthetics.
Kevin was a great, easy to reach host. When we come back to Savannah, we'd love to return to the loft. Great stay!

Lovely place! Even more beautiful than pictures. Location was great, walking distance to everything. I would not hesitate to return. Very well supplied. Note it is a loft, open concept, so sound does travel.

This property was beautiful. Tastefully done inside. We loved the kitchen and the downstairs shower was fantastic. We didn't use anything upstairs because it was just my wife and myself. So we stayed in the bedroom downstairs. It was just more convenient.

The space is spectacular. It is a great remodeling of the old church space. And Kevin makes sure that there is every convenience in the loft and high quality appliances. We had a great, comfortable stay. We would recommend this place for anyone who wants to visit Savannah.

The inner sanctuary is stunning. Well stocked with most of those little provisions that drive you nuts because you forgot them. Well maintained, like home away from home. Kevin is wonderful to work with!

We stayed at Sanctuary Place for a week during the Savannah Film Festival, and we were delighted with every aspect of our stay. First and foremost, we were lucky to have met our host Kevin, who gave us an in-depth tour of the renovation project. It has to be seen to be fully appreciated. My sister has mobility issues, and the ground floor bedroom was perfectly comfortable for her. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed to private loft area. It was so quiet and peaceful each night that my husband got caught up on his sleep. The mid-level landing worked nicely as an office space. The location was exactly what we wanted. It was far enough away from the crowded area of the historic district that we could park easily and enjoy the neighborhood. It’s only a block away to a free historic district shuttle stop at Forsyth Park, so you can take that and not have to deal with finding a parking space. We are SCAD parents, so the location had the added bonus for us in that it put us close to a variety of restaurants and shops favored by SCAD students. There’s also a Kroger grocery store just six blocks away. The kitchen is spotlessly clean and perfect for fixing meals on-site. If you enjoy walking, it’s a perfect spot to stroll through Forsyth Park and on to the other Squares. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat, or at any other properties this team has restored.
I have to mention again how well we were treated by our host, Kevin. We shortened our stay by one day due to my husband’s work schedule. Kevin contacted me personally and refunded that day’s fee, when I hadn’t even asked. He also offered us flexibility on our checkout day to run dorm-related errands for our son. This all made for a relaxing, wonderfully fulfilling vacation.

From first seeing this available On VRBO, I was excited to book. It has so much character & charm when you pull up and walk through the door.
The old decor mixed with the new is pretty neat.
We parked and walked to pretty much everything. Recommend booking 👍

The Inner Sanctuary is located near Forsythe Park and the Historic District, making it ideal to walk the city. The retrofit of the church is magnificent! We enjoyed the open floor plan, Danish modern design, well-equipped kitchen and bathrooms. The placement of the original stained glass windows allowed colorful light to dance around the rooms while providing privacy. Kevin was very helpful with recommendations for restaurants and was easy to reach. We have a great appreciation for the work that went into this project and respect the preservation of the original floors, pillars, windows, and other features. Quite a unique and beautiful home.

Well done mix of maintaining the old with a comfortable blend of contemporary. Kevin was available for any questions

This rental met all of our expectations. Everything was available for a weeks stay.
The apartment is exactly as pictured. Quite modern and very attractive. Very comfortable for 3 adults to sit around and catch-up without being on top of each other.
We enjoyed the longer walk down to the river; but the shuttle was just a block away for those that would prefer a lift.
We were without a car for the week, but Uber was available at the ready.
We would definitely recommend this rental highly.

Everything about the sanctuary was as advertised, beautiful an was very comfortable; just a short walk to either the free trolley or a relaxing walk to downtown. We did both. Enjoyed thoroughly.

We had a marvelous stay -- everything within walking distance: parks, squares, restaurants, museums. Gorgeous trees, avenues, homes. Lovely hospitality everywhere we went. Kevin is an excellent host and his place is exceptional.

Such a beautiful and wonderfully decorated property. The owner Kevin is so easy to work with made our Girls weekend stress free. Completely stocked, at location , comfortable beds, we absolutely loved the lofts. I would definitely book again. The home is an amazing experience itself.

My husband and I booked this property for our stay in Savannah, combining a college drop-off (our child is attending SCAD) and a mini vacation. Hurricane Dorian had other ideas (Savannah along with many other east coast cities shut down for several days in early September). We appreciate Kevin's flexibility in allowing us to modify the dates of our stay! (We ran into Kevin and his canine companion one morning as we were leaving…had a great conversation.)
We had zero troubles finding the property and checking in. Parking in Savannah is at a premium. Yet even though the city swelled with an additional 10K+ students and family, there was always a place to park the rental car right outside. Savannah is walkable, but the weather post-hurricane was hot and humid. So, we used a combination of the rental car, Uber, and the free shuttle bus that circles the city to get around.
Our time in Savannah consisted mostly of running back and forth to Target for dorm-room supplies (there are two Targets in the Savannah area) and ensuring that our college student had all of the necessities (hello bank of mom and dad). We did get a chance to eat at the Crystal Beer Palace, which is worth the wait for a table. The local brews are good. My husband and I visited the Prohibition Museum and had Prohibition era beverages. Another fun stop was the Savannah Bee Company…we tried various honey products and participated in a mead tasting. My family also enjoyed having ice cream at Leopold’s.
A few words about Inner Sanctuary—the property is architecturally very interesting. As a portion of a remodeled church, the interior boasts several high supporting beams with beautiful crowns and what looks to be refinished, original wood flooring. The ceilings are high which adds to the expansive feel. The light filtering through the memorial stained-glass windows creates a colorful palate in the daytime and intricate shadows at night.
Our time in Savannah was memorable. We would stay at Inner Sanctuary again.

The loft was absolutely beautiful and the best equipped rental we have ever stayed in. It was centrally located and very close to the free DOT bus. The only draw back was one shower-there is a shower attachment in the deep tub that you cannot use standing up.
Highly recommend this rental. There were 4 adults there and we were more than comfortable.
