Beautiful landscaping right next to a stream. Traditional Japanese style property with lovely sitting room, outside pavilion, relaxing outdoor bath away from the busyness of town.
It would be challenging to walk into town from this property. We were so grateful for the property manager who arranged taxis for pickup for us to and from the station.

Very traditional Japanese house close to Takayama city. Spacious house with beautiful garden and river next to it. 10 min drive to city center.
Kitchen is very basic and there is only one shower. Would have been nice to have two bathrooms as you can stay here with two families easily.
Also, we were asked on the day of arrival what time we would check out, and were reminded several times during our stay to let them know as soon as possible. This was unnecessary.

Everything, this is a 10/10 ryokan.
Location, size, facilities, host etc .It couldn't be better.

Location is good and its a old teahouse of mid level quality, with nice gardens (which desperately need proper maintenance)
The main beds area underneath had not being cleaned forever and had a layer of grey dust under it.Some other general areas were not so clean either. The outdoor hot tub was not working when we stayed there and owner was would not turn it on . The grass in the carpark was 800m high..The owner was a nice guy, but has to invest some proper money into professional cleaning and maintenance. The gardens are beautiful and location too, but they badly need real proper maintenance . I was reluctant to write such an honest review as the owner/operator is a nice guy, but reality is he must wake up and undertake to properly clean and maintain the property and gardens , otherwise it becomes too poor quality and the stay is lousy. The situation of having an Onsen private tub and not turning it for clients on to save money is not acceptable. In such case this should be disclosed to clients in advance. Had we known this, we would not have stayed there.Its a nice place but sadly getting run down and needs alot of works
