Lovely little house by the sea. It can also operate as two separate apartments. Very well located, beautiful views, lovely garden very well landscaped, nice garden furniture. The house is well equipped. The host provided some nice jams at arrival and the kitchen had all the cooking basics, from salt and pepper to olive oil, all kinds of seasonings, etc. The sea can be accessed (for swimming) from a nearby location, 10 mn walking distance. Very peaceful. Appropriate for those who like to have a quiet holiday, and also explore walking trails (not our case 😁 )

We spent 4 days at Casa Grão de Café at the beginning of August. I have stayed in a dozen houses and flats in the Azores and close to a hundred around the world. None has left such an impression on me as this quaint stone house in the village Fajã dos Vimes on São Jorge. If you are looking for a comfortable place to escape from the hectic world in which we live, then this is exactly the place for you.
Diana is the perfect host - available when needed for assistance or recommendations, but respectful of her guests' privacy. The pictures and the listing describe the house perfectly. It is very roomy, with three comfy, queen-sized beds, two in the main part of the house upstairs and then one more in the studio apartment downstairs, which we didn't even use. The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking, which is needed seeing as there are no restaurants in town. The wifi worked great, although in such a beautiful place it is a shame to be online.
The property is large - we didn't even use the seating under the altan in the lower part of the garden, instead preferring to sit on the stone terrace and take in the ever-changing views of Mt. Pico and the Atlantic Ocean. At night, the stars are as bright as in a planetarium, and the sounds of the waves crashing on the nearby shore intermingle with the bizarre calls of the cagarro birds, a sound like nothing else you will ever hear in your life.
Casa Grão de Café is the closest place to heaven on Earth in which I have ever had the opportunity to stay, and I hope that my travels bring me back here in the near future.
For me, there were no negatives whatsoever, although it is possible that someone could have a problem with the house's isolation. There are no stores or restaurants in the village, as Diana points out, and you need to count on driving 25-30 minutes over winding roads to get food. And the TV is not a smart one, but we didn't care. If you can't live without a smart TV, this place probably isn't for you. Otherwise, I can't think of anything that anyone could possibly criticize.
