K16 Apartments is in the centre of Akureyri, which felt like a smaller and quieter version of Reykjavik. Our room faced Akureyrarkirkja, and the church was only about a three-minute walk away. The Akureyri Art Museum is almost next door, while the Botanical Garden is approximately 700–900 metres away. Restaurants, souvenir shops and other attractions are also within easy walking distance.
It is also a pleasant walk to the waterfront called Pollurinn, the sheltered inner part of Eyjafjordur fjord.
As we were travelling around Iceland for 24 days, having a washing machine and dryer was particularly important and convenient for us. The staff were very friendly, and the host responded immediately whenever we needed assistance.
Several free parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is also paid parking across the road. Grocery stores and petrol stations are within a short drive, with several options located less than 5 km away.
We used the apartment as our base for visiting other parts of North Iceland. Godafoss is approximately 35 km away, Husavik town is around 75 km away, the Christmas Garden—our “Santa’s Workshop”—is approximately 12 km away, and Lake Myvatn is around 80 km away. Overall, it was a very convenient place for exploring Akureyri on foot and taking day trips by car.
The leather sofa bed was not particularly comfortable.
