We thought we would be in an old-fashioned traditional house, but were in a new building. It had all the comfort an amenties one may need, but no the traditional ambiance. So bad and good at the same time.

the location in naramachi, in the historic quarter, a 15-minute walk from kintetsu station and nara station. very walkable. the house is over 100 years old and we got to sleep in tatamis with a private bathroom (showers are shared). staff isn't always on site but self check-in is easy and they are very responsive and helpful over the phone. the elderly gentleman spoke very good english even tho when I asked him if he spoke english and he said he could try in the beginning.
no private showers and you have to pay for the towels.

There was no staff and communication went trough telephone. I could only do whatsup or line.
