The property has an interesting history as Charles Dickens lived there when he was young. The stable rooms are very pleasant, and there's an honesty bar as well as cooked breakfasts. There are some excellent restaurants nearby and it's easy to walk to the high street and the cathedral.
It would have been nice to have an armchair in the room. I may be in a minority, but I would have really enjoyed porridge for breakfast.

Our stable room, overlooking the garden, was very comfortable, especially the bed. The room was warm with toasty underfloor heating in the bathroom. The shower was great and roomy. We arrived about an hour before check-in but were given our key as the room was ready, which was super helpful as we planned to be out for the rest of the day/evening. Breakfast and coffee were good, and everyone was very friendly. We were able to leave our car in the car park on the morning we checked out which was super helpful. Overall a great stay and we would stay again.
We cannot complain about the tight squeeze to fit our car through the car park entrance, given the age and character of the property, but our Lexus 300h only just seemed to fit! This was more than compensated for by the ease of having on-site parking, so close to the city centre. The trains running nearby didn't seem too loud, but were noticeable, if you're a light sleeper. They didn't bother me but my husband noticed them more.

The location was excellent, very close to the station and city centre as well as the relative we were visiting.
The staff on the reception desk were extremely friendly and helpful.
The garden and place to sit just outside our room. Umbrella provided to go between annex and main house.
Honesty bar.
Non-slip mat available for the shower.
Able to leave luggage for the day after checking out.
Free cancellation up to a couple of days before check in date.
Breakfast included.
The bathroom was rather tired with limescale visible round the shower door and tired grout round tiles. There was dust and bits along the top of the shaver point.
The loo brush wasn't very clean.
