We cannot recommend Hakonehostel1914 highly enough! From the moment we arrived, we felt so welcomed and at home. The charm and rustic character of the hostel are beautiful, while still being clean, comfortable and equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay. Kana, the owner/hostess, was truly wonderful. She offered up suggestions for food (ate at 2 of the places and both were fantastic), offered suggestions on how best to get there and what to do in the area. Wonderful generosity. Very kind woman. Great location, close to the train and bus stops. Wish we could have stayed longer.

It has a very rustic and welcoming atmosphere. The tatami room specifically was very comfortable and roomy. The host, Kana was one of the kindest and amazing people I’ve met on my trip!
Honestly there are no complaints about the property. Just make sure to buy the Hakone Free Pass for transportation!
