Stunning accommodation in the heart of the Sassi- an authentic cave experience. Very friendly hospitable hosts. Lovely courtyard and close to the heart of the Sassi. Enjoyed hearing about the history of the accommodation caves form the delightful owner Maria Theresa. Very nice breakfast

Staying in a cave in the Sassi was definitely the way to experience Matera and Le Dodici Lune was a beautiful place to do that. This was by all means not a rugged experience. The cave has been converted into a lovely suite. The bathroom included a large tub to rest after long days of walking.
There were dehumidifiers running in the cave along with air conditioning for comfort.
Staff was extremely helpful with parking and restaurant reservations and getting shuttle back up to garage when departing. The breakfast was delicious.
Walking the whole area to explore was a wonderful experience during the day and night !
Make sure you arrange a shuttle from parking garage down to Sassi and only have a short walk with luggage to the hotel. It is extremely difficult to figure on your own with an app.
The walking instructions should have been more specific with staying on main road and naming street. We used 2 soft packs to carry our clothing and necessities for 2 nights down and Map app took us winding up and down steps thru the Sassi to get to our hotel which was a mistake.

Cave style is the coolest part. Very nice and warm front desk to prepare us for the next day breakfast since we leave early!
